Even with the lack of the core characters in this universe, I am really enjoying this story. You write your characters in such a way that even people who were just in the background in the first two stories are interesting enough and fleshed out enough to hold the readers attention, especially when you devote more time to them and flesh out their story even more.
I am liking this new character and his disability seems to explain a lot (we know why he stared at Kuu). I can't wait for the next chapter, gotta see if Soi finds anything. I'm also pretty sure, even if she used the sealing cloak, that he knew she was following him.
If he is in Ichigo's division, I wonder why Tatsuki didn't recognize him? Perhaps she doesn't deal that much with the inner workings of the division, letting all that up to Ichigo. Ichigo will probably know him, can't wait for the inevitable Ichigo/Soi/Gwydion conversation.

I've thought of a way to perform iaijutsu one-handed. Try it now. Put one forearm behind your head, and twist it so that your palm is facing the same direction as your face. Now, adopt a wide, narrow stance and bend your upper body forward, as close to parallel with the ground as possible. You can now perform a variant of the traditional Rurouni Kenshin battojutsu more or less with ease, striking several targets in front of yourself in a wide arc. After all, your sword is nowhere near as long as Ichigo's, which even *he* can't draw. (His "sheath" comes apart) Furthermore, it's just as much a part of your soul body as your soul hands and feet, and feels light as a feather to you.
Besides, Link can do it!
...Oh, right, review. Good chapter, especially with fleshing out Gwydion's personality. I missed the hints about his disability that I have since gone back and noticed, but I won't say it shocked me. I question what a tall, blonde, busty woman is doing in the middle of Japan, but hey, stranger things have happened, and this *is* the Bleachiverse. I rather missed Jushiro's refered-to appearance. (Hey, I love that guy!)
Anyway, good worldbuilding chapter, and good luck with the work to come.

Yay! New story! Iaijutsu would be kind of difficult if you're drawing from the shoulder, maybe impossible. Plus, I'm pretty sure the off-hand is used to hold the sheath in place because otherwise you'd be bludgeoning somebody instead of cutting them in half.

So, time for a new story for one of the more-neglected (?) characters. I really liked the way this started, largely because I liked how it mixed new stuff and perspective into the little bit at the end of A New Window. I'm definitely looking forward to finding out more about this new guy, and how he fits into everything (or will fit himself into things?).
A few questions, though. One that occurred to me a while ago, and the other just now. The first is, what do the ranks look like in Soul Society nowadays? We know Renji is a captain, and I think it was mentioned that Byakuya is currently without a lieutenant, but what about everyone else? Did they fill the other captain positions, and if so, with whom? Now, of course, I figure this may be worked into the new story, but I'm curious.
The other isn't quite so relevant...What kind of eyepatch does Gwydion have? Since, for some reason, whenever I try to picture him, I see him with a big one more like Nnoitra's. Weird question maybe, but it's been bugging me for some reason.
Looking forward to the next chapter!

I read this last night at about 1am after having juts got home from work. I was just too damn tired to review it though.
As usual with your writing it is top notch and full of detail. This new character, despite having a goofy name is very intriguing and I can't wait to see more of his past.
Short review this time, but I eagerly await more!

'S not goofy. 'S Welsh. Old enchanter's name. Used by Lloyd Alexander in his famous Prydain Cycle to refer to...
...Wait a minute, the Welsh language *is* pretty goofy. Sorry. Didn't think that through when I wrote it.
Anyway, decent chapter. I particularly enjoyed reading one of your trademark descriptions, only to find an MP3 player in it at the end. I laughed long and loud, though my whimsical mind seems to enjoy things that seem very odd later on. Still, given recent events, I find it ironic that, just as we all (myself included) get done mocking her useless lieutenant, he proves to be a total badass. That's life... and Kubo. (Likes helping out supporting characters readers don't. Wikipedia.)
Good luck, and may writer's block avoid your mind like a plague rat should avoid a cat.

You know, you posted this at just the right time! I have a crazy amount of work to do and this opening chapter was a nice way to wind down. I'm really interested in seeing how this goes! You've already done a great job getting into Soi Fong's head, so it'll be fun to see her fall in love.
By the way, I forgot for a second that the male character is an OC, and when I read the description I was like "WHAT? WONDERWICE?" Haha. Just because of the eyes though.

your stories are great! and the fact that you are not afraid to put in as much detail in them as you can is what makes you one of the best of the best!
