Crush Or Lust

Summery: Karin Kurosaki knew she would fall in love, she just didn't think it would be with a shinigami. Once it comes out how she feels, will she be rejected or accepted?

Chapter 1


Sixteen year old Karin Kurosaki sat on a hill, staring out over the landscape. It had been four years since she came to realize that her older brother, Ichigo, was a shinigami.

In that time, it had also been revealed, not only was her brother one but her father was one as well, before he met their mother. A captain naturally.

Karin had spent the past four years coming to grasp that she also could possibly be one. She now knew why she was able to see all those hollows and how she was able to see the spirits. As the young girl sat, she found herself chuckling.


When the battle from the Soul Society spilled over into the real world, she had met the tenth division captain, Toushirou Hitsuguya. Her giggles now were from when he had stated that he wasn't an elementary school student. Then her giggles faded.

Captain Hitsuguya had saved her from a huge hollow that day. Naturally, his vice captain, Rangiku Matsumoto was late but still, he helped them win their soccer game and even remarked that Karin had been injured.


It was then, staring at him that she realized just how handsome the shinigami was. His white hair and green eyes, made her shiver. But then her heart broke.


All the shinigami that had come to help, returned to the soul society. Karin had withdrawn into her own self, not letting anyone know what she was feeling. It wasn't as if the shinigami would see her as a girlfriend or nothing. She was too much a tomboy for that.

Ichigo had sensed that something wasn't right with Karin. When they did talk and he tried to question her about it, Karin would change the subject. But now Ichigo had married Rukia and the two were expecting their first child.

Karin loved Rukia. But as it stood, she wouldn't visit as much as she should. Seeing Rukia each time, reminded her so much of the young captain. And now four years later, Karin found herself regretting that she didn't tell the captain how she felt before he left.


The young girl threw a small rock. Not that he would have believed her. She was only twelve then and more than likely would have been seen as a crush.

That was one of the reasons Karin came here. This was the first place she saw him and she felt comforted by the knowledge that this place held his memory. She heard someone walking up behind her and turned seeing Ichigo smiling at her.

"Hey Karin. I figured I would find you here."


"Hey Ichigo. What's going on?"


Ichigo sat down beside her on the railing. "Your thinking about him again, aren't you?"

Karin tried to act tough. "Thinking about who? I ain't thinking about no one."


Ichigo chuckled. "You are, Karin. Let me see. He is about as tall as you with white hair and green eyes. He carries a zampakato that controls the weather and ice. Oh and don't forget he is a captain."


Karin's eyes widened in shock then went back to their normal hardness. "I ain't thinking of no one."

Ichigo looked out over the landscape. "Karin. Your not fooling no one. I saw your eyes that day he left, they held the same look that I had for Rukia. I know it was for Toushirou because your eyes never left him as he stepped into the portal. Why didn't you tell him how you felt? Talk to me Karin. Please."


Karin sighed. "Because Ichigo. I didn't want him to think it was just a crush because he saved me. I was only twelve and it would have been seen as a childhood crush. Besides, he probually had someone already. I guess I was scared of rejection."

Ichigo looked over. "But it wasn't a childhood crush was it? Four years later and you still think of him. That isn't a crush, little sister, that's love."


Karin swiped her face, angry at her tears. "A love that won't be returned. Just drop it Ichigo. I don't want to talk about it. I'll never see him again. He lives in a different world from us. How's Rukia doing?"

Ichigo sighed. "Still as emotional as ever. Dad says the baby is devolving fine and should be born within the next few months. You know, Karin, I could ask for you to go into the Soul Society or even request that he come here."

Karin shook her head. "No, Ichigo. Let it go. I'll come see Rukia in a few days. I better get home, I have lots of homework to do."


Ichigo watched his younger sister walk away and sighed. He then shook his head and stood, walking back to his home and to his wife.

Later that night as Rukia, Ichigo, Renji and Orihime sat in his living room, the young man frowned. "I saw Karin today.", he stated.


Rukia's head shot up. "How is she?"


"Depressed as ever. And I was right. It was about Toushirou."

Orihime cocked her head, as she normally did. "What about Captain Hitsuguya?"


Ichigo cracked his neck. "Well, when they were here before, Toushirou saved her. Karin acted really weird there for a while. In other words, she fell in love with him."


Renji met Ichigo's gaze. "And, what does that have to do with...Oh, she never told him?"

Ichigo shook his head. "No. She thought it would be seen as a childhood crush. Which it wasn't but in her mind, it would have been. She also stated that he probully had someone else and to let it go. For four years, she has loved him and he has no idea."

They heard footsteps in the hallway and then Rangiku walked in, followed closely by Toushirou. "Who has loved who for four years? And who doesn't know?", Rangiku questioned.

The four in the room, stared at the two in shock. Toushirou blinked. "Well?"


Ichigo looked at Rukia, who in turn, looked at Renji. Renji then turned looking at his girlfriend and Orihime sighed. "I don't think it is our place to say, Captain Hitsuguya. Just someone we know."
Rangiku sat down, followed closely by the shorter shinigami. "I take it we are talking about Karin? And how Toushirou isn't supposed to know that she loved him?"

The other four in the room, opened and shut their mouths in shock. "How...did..you?", Ichigo stuttered.


Toushirou chuckled. "It was easy. I know that she goes to the place she first met me and has for the past four years. I know because I saw the pain in her eyes whenever we left the last time. We don't always announce when we come into the real world, Ichigo. You know that."


Rukia looked over. "Then why not tell her you know? Why didn't you at least acknowledge how she felt about you?"

Toushirou sighed. "Because, Rukia. She was just twelve. And her thoughts were right, I thought it was just a crush because I saved her but now, knowing she still thinks of me after four years.", his voice faded off and he looked to the floor.


Ichigo and Renji started to smirk. "You love her.", Renji stated point blank.

The young captain raised his gaze. "So what if I do. She is only sixteen still. She..."


"Is old enough to make up her mind as if she wants to start a family or not.", Isshin stated as he walked into the room. "You know son, you really need to lock your door."

Toushirou blushed. "Exactly how much of the conversation did you hear, sir?"


Isshin laughed. "Enough to know you love my daughter and she loves you. The only thing stopping you two is the fear of rejection." His smile then faded. "She tries to be tough about it but even I can hear her crying sometimes at night. As Ichigo stated, she was in such pain when you left. Also, my daughter hasn't been on a date or even looked at another guy since you left. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what is going on in her mind and heart. So what brings you into the real world this time?"


Rangiku giggled. "The same thing we have been talking about since we got here."

Toushirou looked around the room. "She is wrong. I don't have anyone."

"What about Momo?", Rukia questioned.


The young captain shrugged. "We found out we were better friends. It was her call."

Isshin smiled. "Well then. Seeing we know now that you are interested. How about I fix you and Karin up on a date?"


Toushirou looked at him. "You would do that?"


Isshin nodded. "She is my daughter. I want to see her smile again and if I request it, she will do it."


Rangiku smiled. "Well then. I will find us a place to stay, Captain. We can set up this date and I will make sure to be conveniently gone that night."


Toushirou groaned, knowing now he was going to face the feelings he had about Karin and he had no choice.
