Chapter Ten

Warning Yaoi(boy x boy), don’t read if you don’t like.

AN: I had someone say I writing style is unusual and that I write my characters as if I know them. I did notice that my writing differed a bit and the only explanation I can give is that I like my stories to focus on the emotions and thoughts of the characters rather than on random conversations. I like the characters to tell the story. Thank you to everyone that reviews. I love you guys

Chapter Ten

Izuru dragged into the office the next day. He was beginning to think that he had made a huge mistake in agreeing to Kenpachi’s terms. And then last night…he didn’t even want to think about last night. Where the hell did Kenpachi get off spanking him like that. Red flushed his cheeks when he remembered what happened after the spanking.

“Are you feeling ok?” Izuru sent an evil look towards his captain.

“Where were you yesterday?” asked Izuru, after settling in his chair. Izuru blinked at the faint blush that spread across his captain’s face.

“I had an engagement.” said Gin. It didn’t take a genius for Izuru to realize that his captain had probably been visiting with his former captain. Izuru was one of the few people that knew of the relationship between Captain Aizen and Captain Ichimaru. If others knew they didn’t acknowledge that they knew. Izuru knew his friend Momo would be destroyed if she knew. Ever since the academy, the girl had been infatuated with the gentle captain. Izuru held his tongue though he longed to tell her so that she could get over Aizen and find a real relationship.

“Hn” snorted Izuru as he turned to his own work. He would leave it at that for now. “Just don’t let it happen too often. I nearly worked my brain into mush yesterday with your work plus my own.”

“Aww Kira-kun missed me?” teased Gin. Izuru merely lifted his hand and with it his middle finger. Gin threw his head back and laughed. Izuru was always humorous. He was about to reply when a shinigami knocked on the door to the office.

“Enter.” An attractive woman with long red hair entered. Gin recognized her as one of the messenger shinigami for Division One.

“Lieutenant Kira, You presence is requested by Head Captain Yamamoto at today’s captain’s meeting. Please present this to the guard upon arrival.” said the red head as she presented Izuru with a scroll.

“Do you know the reason why my lieutenant is being summoned?” asked Gin as he picked up the scroll from Izuru’s desk and began to scan the contents.

“No, sir.” she said before bowing and leaving the office.

“Hmm this is interesting. Have you done something to merit being brought before the Head Captain, Kira-kun?” asked Gin.

“No I don’t know of any reason why I would be summoned before the captains.” said Izuru. He was extremely nervous. Could someone have seen him and Kenpachi last night? Had someone reported him to the head captain?

“Well, it says here for you to come to the meeting. You will wait in the receiving hall until summoned.” said Gin before handing Izuru the scroll.

“You don’t know what this is about Captain Ichimaru?” asked Izuru, a tiny bit of fear present in his eyes. Predator that he is, Gin picked up on that immediately. Izuru was someone he cared about nearly as much as Rangiku. He didn’t like seeing him unnerved.

“I don’t know Kira, but I’m sure that its nothing that you need to worry about. Anything bad, I would have long since heard of from Rangiku. You know how she likes to gossip.” answered Gin truthfully. If Izuru was in trouble he would do everything in his power to prevent anything from happening to him. There would come a time when Izuru would have to stand on his own, but for now Gin had no problems offering him a shoulder. Izuru nodded to his captain and started to once again attempt the pile of paperwork. His thoughts however were not focused on it.

“Captain, do you mind if I leave? There are some things id like to take care of before the meeting.” asked Izuru. The meeting wasn’t for three hours. Izuru needed this time to think. Not only about this presence before the head captain but also about his relationship with Zaraki. Both issues were weighing heavily on his mind and he knew there was no point in attempting to work in such a state. Gin eyed his lieutenant for a moment then with a wave of his hand, shooed him from the office. Izuru bowed gratefully and made his way out.

For a long while, Izuru walked. Not really going in any particular direction. A small weight on his shoulder brought him back from his thoughts. Glancing over, he looked into the concerned brown eyes of one Yachiru Kusajishi. Izuru smiled. Just the sight of the tiny lieutenant lifted his spirits. She was so upbeat and adorable that he understood now why she was able to warm even the frozen heart of Byakuya Kuchiki. She was a breath of fresh air in a Seireitei that had grown stale.

“Pretty? Why are you sad?” she asked in a tiny voice.

“I’m not sad, I just have a lot on my mind.” he answered. How could explain the goings on of adults to a child?

“Yachiru can help. You can play with me and that will make everything all better.” she said with a great amount of confidence. Izuru couldn’t help but smile at the statement. To her all the troubles in the world could be solved by one of three things. Playing, candy, or Ken-chan. To be so innocent again.

“Alright Yachiru. Lets go play.” smiled Izuru. He did owe her a play after all, since she had been so nice that day to show him to the archive. And Izuru always paid his debts, no matter how small.

“Yay!” she yelled, throwing her hands into the air in joy. Grabbing Izuru’s hand, Yachiru took off towards Division Eleven. All Izuru could do was follow. The girl was surprisingly strong for someone so small. He supposed it was to be expected when living with someone like Kenpachi Zaraki. He wondered just how old Yachiru was. She looked no older than ten but there were certain times when her eyes seemed much older. He supposed everyone was allowed their secrets.

Yachiru dragged Izuru through several corridors until they reached her room. The room was so pink it nearly hurt his eyes. She pulled out some paper and crayons. Handing a few sheets to Izuru and spreading out her own, she began to draw.

Izuru had always loved to draw. He was somewhat startled that she had chosen drawing as their choice of activity. As a child, before the death of his parents, Izuru had been a somewhat budding artist. He had spent much of his time drawing and sketching. It was almost eerie that she had suggested this since it was still an activity that he picked up from time to time when he was worried or stressed.

Taking the paper and picking up a stray pencil, Izuru began sketching Yachiru. She was lying on her stomach, her face scrunched up in an adorable grimace as she attempted to draw what looked like a picture of Kenpachi. She was an adorable sight and Izuru, for the first time in a long time began to relax as he drew her. He didn’t know how but as his pencil scratched across the parchment, his worries began to fade. Almost as if he was transferring them from his own body to the paper. After putting a few final touches on the sketch, he glanced up to see Yachiru watching him with big eyes. Izuru smiled and turned the sketch around to show her. Her eyes widened.

“Is that me?” she asked as she carefully took the sketch from Izuru and gazed at it.

“Yep. Though its only a rough since I didn’t have the proper types of paper or pencil.” answered Izuru with a smile. A bell in the distance announced to Izuru that it was time for him to head towards Division One.

“I’m sorry Yachiru, I have a meeting to go to but I promise we will play again soon.” said Izuru. He was almost sad to leave. His time with Yachiru had been so consuming that the hours had passed without him even noticing. A bright smile graced her face at his words. She really did brighten up a room. Smiling, Izuru made his way out of the division and towards Division One. His heart felt a little lighter from his time with Yachiru. As he approached the gates a guard stopped him. Handing over the scroll of summoning to the guard, Izuru waited until the guard could verify it.

Waving his hand, the guard ushered Izuru into the division. A young looking shinigami approached Izuru and escorted him to the waiting area. Izuru bowed his thanks and took a seat at one of the benches to await his summoning into the meeting area. He knew the meeting had already begun and after over an hour or waiting he now knew why Captain Ichimaru hated these daily meetings. According to him, Head Captain Yamamoto was long winded. He had caught his captain muttering under his breath one day after returning to the office after an especially long meeting. Izuru wasn’t sure but it had sounded like Captain Ichimaru had said something along the lines of the old man was intentionally long winded to torture the other captains for his own amusement. Izuru had laughed at the time but now that he thought about it he could see the old man doing that.

After what seemed like an eternity, a servant appeared before Izuru and ushered him towards another chamber. Large double doors opened to reveal all thirteen of the captains lined in two rows with Head Captain Yamamoto seated in a chair at the front of the room. Izuru took a deep breath and walked down the center of the room towards the head captain. He ignored the heated gaze of Kenpachi as he passed him. ‘If I lose my position because of that ass, I’m going to challenge him for leadership of Division Eleven.’ thought Izuru darkly. Kenpachi seemed to sense his thoughts and simply grinned his wide maniacal grin. Stopping in front of the head captain, Izuru bowed low and waited.

“Lieutenant Izuru Kira, it has come to my attention that you are not pleased with the amount of paperwork that each division is assigned.” boomed the head captain in a deep and aged voice that bespoke virility that was hidden beneath his elderly appearance. Izuru blushed pink at the words. He thought he would die of embarrassment. He had to fight to prevent the blush from deepening. ‘I guess the head captain didn’t like my memo.’ sighed Izuru to himself. He had thought it would be a good idea but now was regretting it.

“Yes sir. I find that many times it is repetitious work that takes up too much of the captains and lieutenants. Their time could be better spent in assisting in the training of their division members. Instead they are stuck in their offices from dawn until late.” answered Izuru truthfully. He had a sneaking suspension that the head captain would know if he was lying.

“Hmmm. You gave a very detailed report of all the paper work that seemed to overlap as well as suggestions on how to eliminate the excess. I found it intriguing to read. What surprised me more was that this had not been brought to my attention before.” said Yamamoto.

“With all due respect Yama-jii, I never read a damn thing that is placed in front of me. I just sign it so my little Nanao wont beat me too hard.” said Captain Kyouraku in a slightly whiny voice. Captain Ukitake snickered before attempting to hide his mirth in a cough. Yamamoto chose to ignore his former student and turned his gaze towards Izuru. Izuru swallowed hard. It took a strong person to withstand the direct attention of Yamamoto and not quiver in fear. Izuru was barely able to keep his face neutral and his body still. The old man chose that moment to start to laugh. Izuru didn’t know whether to be afraid or relieved.

“I commend you on your suggestions and would like to inform you that many of them are now in the process of being implemented.” said Yamamoto, causing Izuru to look up in shock. He hadn’t expected it.

“Thank you, head captain.” said Izuru as he bowed again towards the old man.

“No thank you. Without your willingness to approach the issue and make my office aware of the errors, I think we would all still remain doing more work that needed. I have estimated that the changes will reduce work load by at least forty percent.” Several of the captains sent relieved looks to each other. Paper work was something that they dreaded worse than an attack from Hollows. “Now that’s out of the way, I conclude this meeting. Lieutenant Kira, come to my home on Saturday for tea. I think I would like to talk with you some more.” said Yamamoto. Izuru bowed to the head captain as he made his way out of room. Several of the captains approached Izuru with thank yous. Kyouraku promised to send Izuru a jug of his best sake. Izuru blushed at the attention.

Catching Kenpachi’s eye caused his blush to deepen. The large man approached him like he was a hungry wolf and Izuru was an animal in its sights. Izuru had the insane instinct to run, which he fought down.

“I look forward to tonight, boy.” said Kenpachi to Izuru. Izuru blushed even deeper and excusing himself from the others, made his way out of the meeting room and towards the office. Anything to get away from Kenpachi and his dark and exciting presence. Izuru didn’t fear for his life with Kenpachi. He feared for his heart. He knew without a doubt that Kenpachi would break his heart and he also knew that he would let him do it willingly. That scared Izuru more than anything.
