A darkness lingers

Warning: This is Yaoi which means Boy x Boy if you don’t like it don’t read it. Some of the scenes in this chapter may be disturbing for some readers.

Yakumo: Yea bad Aizen how dare he hurt our sweet Gin. It was such a hard chapter to write. Thanks for suffering through it =p.

Jennifer: Honestly I don’t know how long its going to be at least a few more chapters and an epilogue. I have plans in my head to write a sequel featuring Kira since within the next few chapters he’s really going to get hurt(emotionally). It will be the same universe just the focus will shift from Gin/Byakuya to Kira/???????. I’m still debating though.

Darkephoenix: As always thank you for the review. I am happy that I am keeping you entertained with my little story.

Coming Home

Chapter Thirteen

Byakuya woke to the feel of lips brushing his as softly as butterflies. Eyes opened slowly to revealed a smiling man with tussled violet tinted hair. Gin lowered his head and buried his face in the curve of Byakuya’s neck, breathing in the scent of sakura and sandalwood. Gin sighed, simply laying here cuddled up to Byakuya was the most content he had ever been.

Byakuya, though he wanted to stay in the bed for the rest of the day with the grinning man, rolled out from under the covers and walked towards the bathroom. His slender body bore the marks of the previous night’s pleasures. Gin had taken special pleasure in marking his neck knowing that it would be covered with his scarf. Byakuya settled into the steaming bathwater. The scented water eased the aches in his body.

Gin entered the bath and slowly crept towards the tub where Byakuya was soaking. Carefully sliding into the large tub behind the other man, Gin picked up a sponge and began to wash the nobleman. Moments like these were meant to be relished. Byakuya leaned his head back onto Gin’s shoulder. The simple feel of another individual bought a type of peace to both men as they sat in each other’s arms.

Though they may have wished it, neither could stay. Finishing up with the bath and dressing, Gin and Byakuya ate a quick breakfast and began to stroll together towards the Division offices. Arriving at Division Three first, Gin lean towards Byakuya and captured his lover’s lips. Flicking his tongue out delicately and encouraging Byakuya to open his mouth. Both men were so engrossed in each other that they did not recognize the shadow that was watching them. The shadow turned quickly from the image the lovers presented and began to make his way towards his apartment.

Kira fumbled for his keys and slammed the door shut. ’I’ve lost him again.’ his mind screamed over and over. Wabisuke trembled in her sheath. Izuru had just started becoming normal again. Now instead of making headway he was losing it and there was nothing she could do, the young shinigami was not in state to listen and it went against her nature to force it from him. She was after all another side of his soul.

Kira stumbled towards the bathroom and began to dig through the drawers. Finding what he was looked for he sat down beside the tub. Pulling up the sleeve of his uniform, Kira began to cut through the skin. Blood pooled in the wounds and dripped on the white floor. Kira closed his eyes at the pain. One pain to dull another. After Gin had left with Aizen, Kira had taken to cutting. Now feeling as if he had lost him again, the need to cut was stronger that ever. That Gin could find love with another person burned his soul with such agony that he was tempted to cut deeper.

Wabisuke pulsed in a panic, never before had Izuru considered suicide. Not wanting to leave Division Three without a taicho or fukutaicho, Izuru had simply cut to ease the pain and stress. ‘Stop Izuru!’ cried Wabisuke, her cries barely registered with the crumpled man. Running the razor again through flesh as more drops fell, painting a picture of suffering. Izuru began to pant and Wabisuke’s cries finally were being to break through. ‘No one is worth your life.’ cried the zanpakuto. Izuru began to cry his inner world appeared in complete chaos. ‘I am not dying today.’ whispered Izuru to his zanpakuto, though his voice told a different story. His voice said he was already dead. Wabisuke whimpered, she knew that if something didn’t happen Izuru was going to disappear completely.

Taking the bandages he kept in stock for such events and tending his cuts. The pain had helped. He could face his taicho with a smile no matter how false. Adjusting his uniform and cleaning up the blood from the floor, Izuru made his way back towards the Division Three headquarters.

Gin sat at his desk sorting the paper work. He was due at Division One for a meeting in little over an hour and still no sign of Kira-fukutaicho. Gin frowned, it was unlike Izuru to be late or absent. The man was always punctual. Honestly, Kira would more than likely be made taicho one day once he mastered his Ban Kai and became more secure of himself. Retsu had told Gin how Izuru had shined taking command of the division.

“Good morning, Taicho.” came a cheerful voice from the doorway. There stood a smiling Izuru. Nothing appeared amiss but there was something about the gentle man that seemed off. Making a note to himself to investigate this inkling more later, Gin stood with a grin and motioned for Izuru to join him in the office. Handing off his paper work to Izuru to file, they worked like a well oiled machine. One would never have guessed that Gin had been away for over a year.

“I have a taicho meeting soon. Izuru please have the squad assembled for inspection in two hours. I trust ya leadership of them, but I want to see them for myself. Asked Gin, as he stood and walked towards the stand where Shinso rested. Taking the zanpakuto and tying it to his waist, Gin tucked his hands in his sleeves and began to make his way towards Division One.

‘Something is off with that boy.’ murmured Shinso. Gin nodded keeping his grin as he bowed to a passerby. ‘Ya noticed as well? We will look into it later. For now, the taicho meeting.’ said Gin. Shinso snorted ‘That boring old man, he drones on forever. Why do you think Kyoaku-taicho wears that big hat. The fucker sleeps through half the meeting.’ Gin grinned, Shinso was right and every taicho knew it too. Hitsugaya-taicho had been given the duty of waking Shunsui should something important be said since the smaller taicho was easily hidden by Shunsui’s pink haori and could jab him without drawing attention. It was almost comedic. No one was really sure if Yamamoto-sotaicho actually noticed or not.

Gin approached the large double doors and pushed them aside and made his way inside. Most of the taicho were there waiting. Only Ukitake and Kyoaku remained missing. It was understandable, if Ukitake had fallen ill Shunsui would definitely see to his wellbeing before joining the meeting. Soi Fong-taicho nodded to Gin. She had been the only person other than Yamamoto to know of his deception. Being a trained assassin and leader of the Secret Mobil Forces as well taicho of Division Two, Soi Fong had trained Gin so that he would be less likely to be sniffed out.

Komamura-taicho approached Gin. Gin clenched inside. It was well known that the massive taicho and Tousen had been close. Not knowing what to expect since unlike himself, Tousen had indeed betrayed Soul Society, Gin stood his ground, grin firmly in place. Gin was shocked when the huge fox headed man bowed slightly and offered his hand. Grasping each other’s forearms in a warrior’s greeting, many of the taicho in the room released a pent up sigh. It seems as if they were also thinking along the same lines as Gin. Ukitake and Shunsui took that moment to enter. The smell of sake and sunshine followed the flamboyant man as he took his place in line. The sound of footsteps and the rapping of a cane signaled the arrival of Yamamoto.

“First order of business, Welcome back Ichimaru-taicho. I know your division is very happy to have their taicho returned safely too them.” Yamamoto droned on for nearly a half an hour, notifying all the taicho of all the important and not so important events occurring in Soul Society.

“Now we must discuss what must be done with the remaining Arrancar in Hueco Mundo.” The sotaicho stated in a booming voice. True to form, Hitsugaya jabbed his elbow directly into Shunsui’s ribs. The man flinched slightly and snorted as he woke up from his nap and turned his attention to Yamamoto. Zaraki-taicho’s feral grin widened and Ukitake hid his laugher behind a cough. Gin himself fought the snicker that was threatening to emerge. The sotaicho HAD to know what was going on during his meetings. There was no way that the old man was that blind.

“I have decided that Divisions Three, Six, and Eleven will mount an assault on the remaining Arrancar in Heuco Mundo. Members from Division Four will accompany each division. Squads Two, Five and Ten will remain on standby should reinforcements be needed. The operation will occur in two days so prepare your divisions. Ichimaru-taicho will be in charge of this mission. Dismissed.” Yamamoto stood and began to make his way towards his office.

The meeting room erupted into conversation. Several of the taicho were not surprised at this order. The Arrancar had been raiding Karakura Town randomly since Aizen’s defeat. An assault on them was necessary for the sake of the innocent people that suffered from the attacks. Most understood why Gin was placed in charge. His knowledge of the landscape as well as the different abilities of the various Arrancar would be invaluable. The underlying thought was could Gin handle a return.

Gin and Byakuya walked slowly from the meeting hall. “Ya aren’t surprised are ya?” asked Gin.

“Unohana-taicho informed me of the plan a few days ago.” replied Byakuya in his normal icy tone. Gin grinned knowing full well the act that the other man was putting on. Gin leaned over and whispered “I guess we’ll have to make the most of the next few days.” Taking that moment to nip lightly at Byakuya’s earlobe. The nobleman stiffened but didn’t pull away. Gin straightened and they began to walk towards their respective offices. Neither talking but simply enjoying each other’s presence. Once the mission began, things could get ugly fast as was always the case with war. Shinso thrummed with excitement. The zanpakuto had always loved a good fight and he would get it soon enough. Gin sighed, but until then he would enjoy his time with Byakuya.

AN Poor Kira, I do love him but I am setting him up for a later fic for himself. Seems he had some real issues and is on a path of destruction. Hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please Read and Review.
