Chapter Fifteen.
“FUCK…Izuru… wake up, Baby. Ikkaku get your ass to Division Four and bring me back a healer.” A deep voice broke through the thick darkness that enveloped Izuru. He groaned and tried to fight his way towards the surface, following the sound of the voice. ‘Kenpachi…’ Izuru tried to speak but his lips wouldn’t move. Why was he had having such a hard time focusing? Was he sick?
“Captain, he’s coming around.” said Yumichika. Izuru knew it was the feminine man because of the delicate tone of voice. The fog was beginning to lighten. His eyes fluttered open but shut quickly at the bright light that caused his head to hurt. The only thing that grounded him was the deep voice that called to him.
“That’s it baby, listen to my voice.” crooned Kenpachi as he scooped up the limp Izuru and carried him towards the bedroom. Kenpachi lowered him to the bed and began to run his fingers through Izuru’s hair in a calming manner.
“Kenpachi…” whispered Izuru, now that his body was able to obey the commands of his mind. His blue eyes opened to stare into concerned brown. He didn’t think he had ever seen Kenpachi carry that type of expression. Even the night he had missed dinner, his concern had been mild. There was actually worry in his voice now.
“Yumi, go see what’s keeping Ikkaku.” growled Kenpachi to his raven haired fifth seat. The man bowed and left the room to search out his friend.
“Baby, what happened? I come home and find you unconscious in the archive room.” asked Kenpachi calmly so not to startle his lover. Izuru bit his lip as the memories of his family’s death threatened to overwhelm him again. Even after nearly fifty years, it still hurt to think about it. The picture of that ‘man’ brought back the memories and the emotions in a tidal wave. He had been unprepared for the fallout.
“I found what I was looking for.” murmured Izuru, his eyes downcast. Kenpachi stopped at his stroking.
“What did it say?” he asked.
“It said that the investigating officer of Division Eleven suspected that my uncle had hired assassins to kill my family but not me in order to get control of my family’s money. He also said that it’s possible that Central 46 knew and they covered it up. Even to the point of ordering the officer to close the case.” said Izuru sadly. That the society that he had served for so many years had supported the murder of his family because his uncle had offered them something they had wanted. What that something was Izuru had no clue. Izuru thought to himself that he would one day know the reasons but for now he was just trying to come to grips with what he had learned.
“I am having a little trouble coming to grips with this.” whispered Izuru. Kenpachi pulled him into his chest. Izuru closed his eyes and listened to the sound of Kenpachi’s heart thumping.
“Captain, I brought Hanatarou from Division Four.” yelled Ikkaku as he and Yumichika walked into the room followed by a shinigami with a smaller frame.
“Ikkaku-san said that Lieutenant Kira collapse.” asked the young appearing man with gentle but sad eyes.
“We found him unconscious. He difficult to wake up.” supplied Yumichika.
Hanatarou’s hands glowed and he ran them across Izuru’s body. He began to relax into the touch as the healing warmth radiated through him. Izuru sighed contentedly and Kenpachi shot a dark look at the smaller man.
“Hurry the fuck up.” growled Kenpachi. Hanatarou jumped three feet in the air.
“Yes...sir. I just needed to relax him to be accurate.” stammered Hanatarou. After a few minutes, Izuru was dozing with his head on Kenpachi’s shoulder. The healer straightened and nodded.
“Well?” asked Kenpachi with a slight growl in his voice. Hanatarou paled and began to inch away from the bed.
“Now Captain, why are you being so mean to the healer. After all he is taking care of Kira-kun.” purred Yumichika. Kenpachi shot his fifth a very dirty look that promised if he didn’t shut his mouth, he would be Kenpachi’s sparring partner for a month. Yumi got wise and shut his mouth.
“He’s exhausted both mentally and physically. It’s obvious that his mind is stressed and his body’s way of dealing with it was to shut it down. That’s probably why it was so difficult to wake him. I would suggest bed rest for the rest of this day and tomorrow. I will be by tomorrow…” Hanatarou didn’t even finish the sentence at the dark look. “Uh…uh… Have Lieutenant Kira make an appointment to see Captain Unohana in the next few days.”
“Yes yes, I’ll make sure that he checks in with Captain Unohana.” said Kenpachi dismissingly. Hanatarou got wise and decided to cut his losses and get out while he could. The lieutenant would be fine after a day or two of rest. However, if Hanatarou didn’t get out he would likely be missing a limb. Better to live to fight another day.
“Captain, I gathered up that file for you.” said Ikkaku. Ikkaku strode up, Handed Kenpachi the file and quickly left the room. Izuru was still dozing on the bed, Hanatarou having sedated him mildly. Kenpachi flipped through the file. It was well written and a lot of effort had obviously been put into it. It was an odd thing for someone in this particular division. Paperwork was usually the last thing that The name of the investigating officer wasn’t anyone he knew but that wasn’t unusual since he didn’t know many of the officers in any division.
“Ken-chan?” whispered Yachiru from the doorway. Her face was sad when she looked towards the bed.
“Yachiru.” said Kenpachi as he set aside the folder. Scooping up the girl, Kenpachi cradled her in his arms. “Izuru will be fine, he was just tired. You and I will take care of him.” Yachiru’s bright smile beamed forth.
“Yep, Ken-chan. Then we will be a family.”
“Hmm, a family, huh? I like the sound of that.” said Kenpachi. “For now, keep it quiet in the division. I’m going to look into some things. Don’t let him out of bed.”
“Yes, sir.” said Yachiru, saluting.
Picking up the file, Kenpachi left the room and made his way towards the registry. Izuru stirred from the bed. Rubbing his eyes, he noticed Yachiru coloring on the floor. As if sensing that he was awake, Yachiru looked up and grinning bounded towards the bed.
“Pretty-chan. Look, look, I drew you a picture.”
The picture in question was a colorful rendition of Yachiru standing between what looked like Kenpachi and Izuru. Yumichika and Ikkaku were off to the side and a shape that looked vaguely like the division main building was in the background. Above everyone’s head was what they were to Yachiru. Yumichika was named Feather-chan, Ikkaku was named Pachinko head, but however, the most embarrassing part of the entire picture was the title ‘Mommy’ labeled about Izuru and Daddy labeled about Kenpachi.
“Yachiru, you know I can’t be your mommy, right?” The girls face fell and Izuru felt like he had just killed her dog. “I mean… I’m a man, I can’t be a mommy.” She brightened immediately.
“Oh…Don’t worry you can still be my mommy, I don’t care if you are a man.” she smiled happily. Izuru sighed. There was no reasoning with the girl. It was better to just let her have her way. In the end, that’s the way it always went anyway.
“Yachiru, go play with Yumi for a few minutes. I want to talk to Izuru.” said Kenpachi from the doorway. Yachiru jumped from the bed, hugged Kenpachi’s leg and then trotted out to torment the unsuspecting Yumichika.
“Kenpachi, thank you for taking care of me. I didn’t realize how much finding a lead would upset me.” said Izuru when Kenpachi settled himself on the edge of the bed.
“I went to the Shinigami registry to see if Jun Ebara was still living around here. The last that was heard of him he was living in Rukon district 45. Not exactly high style but better than some.” said Kenpachi. “It’s been a while but maybe he remembers something about this file. One doesn’t forget easily the case that causes your retirement from the life of a shinigami.”
“Kenpachi…I don’t know what to say. You didn’t have to do this for me.” said Izuru, his heart warmed that the large captain had gone out of his way to get information for him.
“Yea, well don’t get used to it.” muttered Kenpachi. Cupping his hands around Izuru’s face, he brought their lips together. Kenpachi’s lips were soft. His tongue edged in and dominated the mouth of his mate. He had decided this morning while out that he would never let Izuru go. Come hell or high water, Izuru was his for the rest of their days. Pulling back, Kenpachi sucked on his lover’s bottom lip before resting his forehead against Izuru’s. The bells in his hair jingled with the movement. “You scared me today.”
“I’m sorry.” whispered Izuru.
“Just don’t let it happen again.” growled Kenpachi. “If Central 46 wanted this case buried, you may want to keep your investigations on it quiet.” Izuru nodded in agreement. Research would have to wait. For now he would rest as Hanatarou advised. The poor guy had been terrified out of his wits from Kenpachi. Izuru decided he would go and check on the boy when Kenpachi let him out of the bed. Izuru shook his head. He was sure that if Kenpachi had his way, he would never leave the bed. Then another blush spread across his cheeks. It was easily identifiable due to his unusually pale cheeks.
“What are you thinking that has your cheeks red?” purred Kenpachi in his ear. Izuru blushed brighter and looked away, attempting to calm his emotions and the pounding in his heart. Kenpachi laughed that deep laugh of his. Not the mad cackle he released when he was fighting. No, this laugh was one of pure enjoyment and the only time Izuru had ever heard him use it was when they were alone. It seems there were many depths to Kenpachi that even he didn’t realize.
Kenpachi grinned and pulled Izuru into his arms. Izuru lay there, enveloped in warmth. The comfort of having strong arms around him and the sound of Kenpachi’s heartbeat soon had Izuru relaxing. Soon, his eyes grew heavy and once again he drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, Captain Ichimaru among others visited with Izuru. The company was welcome since Izuru had only had Yachiru and Yumichika for company. Yumichika had been a surprisingly good companion, despite their rocky start and Yachiru was a bright spot in anyone’s day. Though the company wasn’t lonely, visits from his close friends was welcome. Everyone left but Captain Ichimaru. Yachiru and Yumichika went to check on tea leaving the two alone.
“You will never guess the strange note I received this morning from the registry. It seems that a red flagged name was inquired about by none other than Kenpachi Zaraki.” said Gin almost in passing. Izuru paled at the words. He hadn’t stopped to think that Central 46 would flag the name. Stupid! Stupid!
“Don’t worry, I had a favor owed me. The inquiry will never reach the desks of Central 46.” purred Gin, “However; I would like to know the reason for me putting my neck on the line.”
Izuru sighed; his captain had the right to know. It was a secret or anything. Most knew he was from a minor noble family and that his parents were dead. But few knew the full story. Izuru related his tale to his captain. Gin listened intently, making no sound or motion. After Izuru finished his story, Gin sat silent for a long time. Aizen would probably ban him from their bed for a month; however Gin felt the urge to help the young man. He had grown attached to the blonde. Their plan wasn’t scheduled to go into effect for a while so it should be safe to assist his lieutenant.
“I have access to some of the files in Central 46. If I can get you a copy of your parent’s file, would you be willing to owe me a favor to collect at a later date?” said Gin. A favor from Kira might be a useful thing to have. Izuru’s eye’s widened.
“Yes, but Captain. I will refuse any favor of the sexual nature.” said Izuru. Gin threw his head back and laughed at the comment. A favor of the sexual nature was not one that he had considered nor was one he would collect. The words themselves were funny to him. Gin nodded and stood.
“You will have that folder on your desk by the end of the week. Izuru, if you are caught with it I will deny all knowledge and you will suffer the consequences. So I suggest that you read it and put it to memory as fast as you can, then destroy it.” said Gin before leaving, pausing to bow to Yachiru as she bounced in the room. Izuru sat for a long time going over the deal he had just made and couldn’t quite understand why he felt he had just made a deal with the devil.
