Chapter Eighteen

Warning Yaoi (boy x boy) don’t read if you don’t like.

AN: Thank you to Darkephoenix, Queensassycat, satterb, and killerfox for the reviews. Also Yakumo idk what you were going to review but I’m sure it would have been good. killer fox: I totally agree with you as far as bleach goes. In fact, with Bleach I appreciate the rare pairings more hence why my first story was Gin/Byakuya. Mix and match is the way to go. I’m pretty open to any pairing in bleach, Naruto I’m just the opposite. I love the Naruto/Sasuke pairing more than any other. I congratulate authors that can pull off crack pairings but in my eyes Naruto and Sasuke are soul mates. Seems like forever since I wrote a chapter in this story. If my friends stop kidnapping me in the evenings I’ll be able to write faster. Oh well, enjoy this chapter, this is one of the first times in this story that the perspective of the story pulls from Kira‘s thoughts and emotions to Kenpachi. I have been trying to keep everything in the perspective of Kira with only minor deviations from his perspective. This chapter may stick out b/c it deviates from that but I assure you that its entirely on purpose.

Chapter Eighteen

Izuru strode to his desk, his step light. During the last week, Kenpachi had made sure to drill into Izuru exactly who he belonged to. It wasn’t as if Izuru fought him hard. Truthfully, Izuru liked the thought of belonging to Kenpachi. It was comforting, the thought of having someone to help bear the burden. He laughed at the strange family he had found in Division Eleven. Even the odd division members had begun to warm up to him. The loud mouth Ikkaku and the preening Yumichika had even begun to join Kenpachi, Yachiru, and himself for dinner every night. The interaction between the group had become something that Izuru looked forward to witnessing every day.

Settling himself in his desk chair Izuru glanced over his desk to determine the amount of paperwork that would be required today. A manila envelope lying inconspicuously on his desk drew his eyes. His heart began to pound and his breath caught in his throat. Could this be the file that Captain Ichimaru had promised him? He had made a deal with the devil for a chance to look into Central 46’s files concerning the murder of his family. This was his chance to find their murderers. His hands were shaking as he picked up the sealed envelope.

Opening the envelop, Izuru saw that it was a file. The first page was directed towards Izuru.

Izuru,

Here is the file as promised. I would suggest that you read it, quickly put it to memory, and destroy the file. It is after all from Central 46 and they do not take kindly to shinigami sticking their noses where they don’t belong. Remember our deal. I’ll collect one day and I expect your cooperation on that day.

G.I.

Izuru swallowed as he read the note from his captain. How Captain Ichimaru had obtained this file was not something he wanted to dwell on. His soul now bore the debt owed to his captain. He would pay no matter what the eventual request would be. For now, however, he would put those thoughts aside for a later time.

Izuru put aside the note from Ichimaru and did a cursory glance at the contents. Part of the file was similar to the file by Jun Ebara that Izuru had found in the Division Eleven archives, however, there was additional content to this file. It was more than likely added after Central 46 had removed the file from the care the division. One particular report caught his attention.

Mission Report, May 13

Order were received from Central 46 to eliminate Yuji Kira and his wife Ayumi. Kira appeared to have been a member of a group of individuals that discussed plans to overthrow the royal family. Protection of the royal family must come first. Kira had a lot of money stored away and possibly even more hidden in secure locations. It is enough to start a rebellion. This must never happen.

As ordered by Central 46, the targets have been executed and all evidence had been removed. My operatives have informed me that the child has been relocated to his uncle’s home as per your request. Operatives will continue to collect information on Izuru Kira, however it looks that he was not aware of the goings on of his father. The decision by Himura to spare him was justified. The only injury documented was a slash across Shu Himura’s face. Perhaps it will teach him a lesson in humility.

Keno Inuza

Addendum: May 15.

It had come to the attention of the investigation division of Central 46, that the information given in the case of Yuji Kira was falsified. Yuji Kira was never in any such organization that participated or discussed the overthrow of the royal family. A grave error has been made in the judgment of this case. I would highly advise the discontinuing of the Division Eleven investigation. Much could turn up that could possibly lead back to Central 46. We do not need Head Captain Yamamoto involved in this issue. Upon your orders I will attempt to remove all links to Central 46. This file will be the only known copy of the fate of Yuji and Ayumi Kira.

Izuru sat in a daze. The society that he had loved and protected, the ideals that were preached to him were crumbling around him. Central 46, set up to bring justice to Soul Society had ordered the murder of his parents on an accusation that turned out false. It also explained why the investigation was discontinued. It would have been too risky to allow it to continue when their deaths could point back to Central 46. The pain in his heart was nearly unbearable.

When his vision cleared, Izuru continued to leaf through the file, sorting it into sections. Those created by Jun Ebara and those created by Keno Inuza. A list of all the assassins and names was provided on the last page. It appeared as if they were the private assassins of Central 46.

Izuru read through the names but only one stood out more than the others. Shu Himura. The man he had slashed on the face. The man he had marked with his hurt and anger. This man had led the assassins and had shown no mercy towards Izuru’s parents. Why had he lived? He was the son of Yuji Kira. Why had Central 46 not killed him as well?

Ichimaru had said to burn the file into his memory. Izuru had thought he would need to study the file before destroying it. That was not the case. Every word, every detail were all engraved in his mind. It was as if he had transferred everything into himself for analysis. He would never forget the contents as long as he lived.

Dropping the file into the waste basket, Izuru shot a fire kidou at the file and incinerated the entire file. There was nothing left but ash. Collapsing in his chair, Izuru was left alone with the cold truth playing back through his mind. Tears began to run down his face. He remained sitting in his chair unmoving. Izuru’s mind could no longer take the strain. The hurt and anguish were too much. He felt the darkness gather on the corners of his mind and opened his arms to the comforting darkness. Here he could drift without being forced to face the truth that had been shoved into his mind.

A young division member found him in his trance like state and sent a Hell Butterfly to Division Four for aid. Miyu sat with her lieutenant until the Forth Division arrived to help. She might be new but that didn’t mean that she would leave her superior alone in such a state.

Hantarou rushed to assist his friend and found him in the same state as when the young shinigami that had sent the request. His eyes were dull, tear tracks still visible on the pale cheeks. Hantarou recognized the symptoms. Izuru was in shock. His mind was shutting down to help deal with the information that was causing such turmoil. Hanatarou motioned for the girl.

“I am taking Lieutenant Kira to the Forth Division. I would like you to go and retrieve Captain Zaraki from the Eleventh for me.” asked Hantarou. The girl paled at the mention of Zaraki. She may have been new to the thirteen squads but the rumors of the bloodthirsty captain were more than enough to send chills down her spine.

“Don’t worry, Miyu. He will be more concerned with heading to the Forth than eating you for breakfast.” smiled Hantarou. The smile eased the girls worries and she headed out.

Twenty minutes later, Miyu stood in front of the Eleventh Division. Knocking on the gate of the Eleventh Division, she stood quaking as a large burly man opened them and looked down at her like she was some sort of bug.

“Please, I have a message for Captain Zaraki.” she said with a respectful bow. The man said nothing but stepped aside and ushered her into the complex. The sounds of shouts and fights could be heard throughout the various buildings. Miyu chose to ignore the catcalls from several division members lounging about on the steps of the main building. The large guard knocked on a large door that lead to an office. Upon receiving verbal acknowledgement, the guard ushered her into the room. The office was occupied by an immense desk. Miyu nearly collapsed when the one eyed man looked up from his paperwork to focus his attention on her. He wore a partially bored, partially annoyed look on his face. It was all Miyu could do to stand unflinching in front of this powerful man.

“Captain Zaraki, Hanatarou-san asked me to relay the message that Lieutenant Kira as been taken to Division Four…” Miyu began but didn’t even get to finish the statement before the dark aura of the captain was surrounding her. She collapsed to her knees as he stood over her.

“What the fuck did you say about Izuru.” growled Kenpachi, his voice low and menacing. Miyu whimpered under the pressure of his reiatsu. Seeing the girl cowering unable to speak, Kenpachi pulled back his flaring spiritual pressure and knelt beside the girl. After taking a few moments to collect herself, Miyu spoke.

“Lieutenant Kira was taken to Division Four. I sent for help after finding him unresponsive in his office. Please, Captain, that’s all I know.” whimpered the girl from Kenpachi’s feet.

Kenpachi didn’t pay her any mind, stepping past her and out of his office faster than she could even comprehend. Kenpachi paused only for a moment to give orders to Yumichika.

“Yumi!” boomed the deep voice of Kenpachi. Yumichika didn’t waste time as he flickered before his captain.

“Izuru was taken to Division Four. I’m going. Take care of Yachiru.” Kenpachi ordered swiftly, before disappearing from sight. Yumi was left in a state of shock. What had happened to the little blonde. He and Izuru may have gotten off on the wrong foot but he didn’t like the thought of the blonde being injured.

Kenpachi rushed to the Fourth Division. A nurse met him at the door as ordered by Hanatarou. She escorted him to a waiting room.

“Captain Zaraki, please wait here until Hanatarou-san comes to talk with you.” said the nurse before exiting the room. Kenpachi began to pace, anger and worry causing his reiatsu to leak from him. He heard several nurses collapse in the corridor and was grateful for the reiatsu consuming eye patch. Its likely he would have incapacitated the entire division if he had full access to his reiatsu.

“What is going on here?” said the soft voice of Captain Unohana from the doorway of the waiting room. Kenpachi glanced up to see the lovely captain of Divison Four standing in the doorway. Her appearance radiated calm and peace. Even Kenpachi felt the effects of her reiatsu.

“My Izuru was brought in here and I don’t know what has happened to him. That’s what’s going on in here.” growled Kenpachi. Unohana’s face softened and she smiled her naturally comforting smile.

“Captain, I will go check on him. Just wait here for a moment and for the love of all that is holy, try to control your spiritual energy for a few minutes. I would like to keep all my nurses conscious.” smiled Retsu.

Kenpachi paced the waiting room, keeping a tight rein on his reiatsu so not to anger the seemingly gentle captain. Looks were definitely deceiving when it came to Retsu Unohana. If her smile was scary, Kenpachi hated to think what her scowl would be like. It took a lot to scare him and Kenpachi decided that Retsu Unohana was one of those things.

The next few minutes passed quietly for Kenpachi. No one dared enter waiting room one. In fact, most gave even the closed door to the waiting room a wide berth. Finally, Retsu returned to the room and gestured for Kenpachi to follow her. Kenpachi stood quickly followed the captain. She took him down several corridors until reaching a room. Knocking softly, Retsu lead Kenpachi in.

The room was dim, no lights were visible save for the soft glow from a lantern lit on the bedside. Hanatarou was sitting at the bedside, attempting to break Izuru from whatever cloud had descended on his mind. Retsu nodded to her subordinate, who stood and with one last look at Izuru, exited the room, followed shortly by his captain.

Kenpachi walked to where Izuru lay, staring off into nothing. His eyes reminded Kenpachi of the eyes of men who had died on the battlefield. They were dim as if there was no soul left in the being. The only thing that kept Kenpachi from believing him dead was the slow rise and fall of his chest and the occasional blinking of lashes. Kenpachi took the limp hand in his. His fingers traced the faint blue veins visible through the pale skin. If one went by skin, one would never guess that Izuru was a lieutenant level shinigami.

His pale skin was delicate and the intricate network of veins and capillaries could be seen through the skin. Many would see his appearance as a weakness, Kenpachi knew that his little Izuru was far from weak. His Izuru. He didn’t know when he had started thinking of Izuru as his in more than just a sexual sense. Izuru has such depth that Kenpachi could only hope to one day bear witness to it all.

“Izuru,” whispered Kenpachi as he continued to rub the soft skin of Izuru’s wrist with his thumb. “You don’t have to bear the darkness alone. I have lived in it far to long to be hurt by it.”

Izuru remained unresponsive. Leaning down, he brushed his lips across Izuru’s unresponsive ones. Decision made, Kenpachi settled himself in the chair at the bedside. He was familiar with this. He had seen it many times on the faces of the young fighters when they were first exposed to the death and carnage that was ultimately part of Soul Society. For some it only lasted a matter of moments and for others it could go on for days. Kenpachi knew that his Izuru’s mind was trying to sort out whatever it was that he had seen. Now it would just be a waiting game to see how long before he awakened. Kenpachi made a vow to be here when his Izuru awoke.

It would not be hard to convince Captain Unohana. She would know as well as anyone that someone coming from this type of shock would find comfort in the presence of someone close to them. He figured that his lieutenant would be coming around shortly followed by Yumichika. When they arrived he would have the bring any paperwork to Division Four and he would set up his office here. He would be here when Izuru awakened and he would be here when the horror, whatever it was, set in. He had a feeling that whatever Izuru had seen, would haunt him far more than the horrors of the battlefield.
