The Return
Disclaimer: I don’t own Bleach but with all theses sexy Shinigami men I wish I did. I don’t make any money from this fiction in fact I don’t have two pennies to rub together so don’t sue.
AN: Some of the taicho might seem OOC I tried to portray them correctly but its actually harder than it looks. Also Byakuya will be somewhat OOC but you cant expect him to be icy all the time. Under that ice is warmth he just needs a push in the right direction. I know this is slow starting but I need to build it up to what I want it to be so bear with me there will be lemons and all kinds of goodies in later chapters.

Pairing: Byakuya x Gin
Chapter One
“Will he survive?” questioned a strong commanding voice that pierced through the darkness straight to his consciousness.
“He’s strong and his zanpakuto is determined to make him survive. It was a risky move to allow Aizen’s attack to strike him. It completely caught Aizen off guard.” a gentle voice responded. “He is likely to be unconscious for a few days while his body recuperates.”
“Hitsugaya-taicho witnessed the entire battle and from what he told me, if not for Hanatarou’s quick actions, Gin would not have survived his injuries.” the gentle voice stated.
“Where?” gasped Gin through the pain that threatened to send him back into the darkness.
“You are safely back in Soul Society, Gin. Do you know who I am?” asked the Fourth division taicho.
“Unohana Retsu” whispered Gin and the lovely female Shinigami smiled gently and with a touch of her hand sent Gin back in to the dreamless abyss where no pain could touch him.
“I have called an emergency Taicho meeting, Unohana-taicho. I would like you to attend and debrief the other taicho of the condition of Ichimaru. I also have something that all of you need to hear.” With those words the sotaicho of Soul Society turned and began to make his way back to the Meeting Hall. ‘There is much to discuss.’ he thought.

Retsu stepped out of her office and began to make her way towards the Meeting Hall. The spring day was warm and the scent of cherry blossoms could be smelled on the breeze. Much rejoicing was happening in the Seireitei as Shinigami celebrated the long awaited defeat of Aizen. At the same time, Retsu also knew that many Shinigami were mourning the loss of close friends that had lost their lives in the final battle.
As Retsu entered the Meeting Room and took note of all the taicho present in the room. Zaraki Kenpachi was smiling like a mad man. ‘Seems like he enjoyed himself’ mused Retsu. Ukitake-taicho was speaking quietly with Kyouraku-taicho. Ukitake began to cough into a silk cloth and leaned gently against Shunsui. It was well known through out the Soul Society that Ukitake Kushiro and Kyouraku Shunsui were more than simple friends. Kuchiki Byakuya stood stoically a perfect example of his noble blood. Retsu knew better than to believe his icy demeanor. Beneath that ice was a soul that suffered even to this day. The rest of the taicho seemed to simply be waiting for Yamamoto-sotaicho to enter and begin the meeting. Yamamoto entered and everyone took their places in two lines facing each other with Yamamoto in his usually seat.
“I’m sure many of you are wondering as to why Ichimaru Gin is having his injuries treated rather than being put to death on sight for treason against the Soul Society.” began Yamamoto-sotaicho.
“The thought did enter our minds.” answered Ukitake.
“What the hell is going on?” asked Zaraki in his loud voice that could cower even the most stout hearted.
Yamamoto slammed his cane down and the echo that resounded throughout the room caused all the taicho to stop talking and come to attention. Yamamoto sighed and began.
“Ichimaru-taicho has been working directly for me for many years as a spy in Aizen Sosuke’s confidence.” Yamamoto paused and there was a dead silence in the room as several of the taicho looked up in shock. Yamamoto began his tale.
“About six months after Gin was appointed to fukutaicho under Aizen, he approached me with concerns about his taicho. At first it was simple and it appeared as if the secrets that Aizen harbored were minor and nothing to become worried about. Somehow, Gin earned Aizen’s trust and Aizen revealed a small portion of his future plans. Gin brought this to me and I ordered him to stay close to Aizen and to not break his cover. I knew that the only way to get proof of Aizen’s plotting was to allow Gin to remain with Aizen.”
“Wasn’t Ichimaru’s word enough to allow Aizen to be arrested and tried for treason?” asked Hitsugaya.
“Sadly no, we needed witnessed proof for Central Forty-six to act.” answered Yamamoto.
“Gin warned me…….and I brushed it off” said Kuchiki Byakuya, his eyes widening in shock as his normally stoic expression was broken.
The room turned towards the normally silent taicho with questions in their eyes. Byakuya faced forward once again his icy mask again in place. On the outside Byakuya was once again the frozen prince of the Seireitei but on the inside his mind turned over this revelation.
“Unohana-taicho, debrief us on Ichimaru-taicho’s status.” demanded Yamamoto. Byakuya pulled himself from his wondering thoughts and focused on Retsu.
“Ichimaru-taicho is suffering from severe blood loss related to taking a direct blow from Aizen’s zanpakuto. He is also suffering from reiasu depletion most likely caused from the extended battle with Aizen. He has a few broken ribs but other than being extremely painful, they present no danger to his life. What I am concerned about is this. Due to his reiasu depletion, Ichimaru-taicho is in for a long recovery but I fully expect him to recover completely. Retsu resumed her position after explaining Gin’s condition to her fellow taicho.
“Oh, one more thing,” continued Retsu. “Ichimaru-taicho will be unable to care for himself for several weeks while his body recovers. I would like to find a place where he can stay until he is able to renew his duties. He could stay with Squad four but my subordinates have enough to handle without out adding this to their duties. I also believe that he would heal better in an environment other than a hospital.”
“He may stay at the Kuchiki Estate until he recovers.” stated Byakuya matter of factly.
All eyes in the room turned towards the Kuchiki heir in shock. That was not what any one expected at all.
“Byakuya are you sure you want to do this?” asked Ukitake.
“Ichimaru tried to warn me just before Aizen put his plan into effect. Rukia and I were walking towards my office after eating lunch. Ichimaru stopped us to talk. At first it seemed just an exchange of pleasantries but he then said something that I had completely forgotten until just now. He said change was coming and that I should be prepared. He risked his cover to warn me about the upcoming events as best he could without drawing attention to himself. This is the least I can do for someone who nearly lost his life for the sake of the Soul Society.” answered Byakuya.
“Very well Byakuya. It will be a few days before he is stable enough to be moved. I myself will visit daily in order to assess his recovery and give any treatments as necessary.” smiled Retsu.
“This meeting is adjourned.” stated Yamamoto “I fully expect each captain to notify his or her squad of the events of this meeting.” With those words Yamamoto stood and made his way to his office.
Shunsui leaned towards his long time friend and lover, Juushiro, with a grin. “Interesting turn of events eh, Shiro-koi?”
“Your mind is in the gutter again isn’t it, Shunsui.” smiled Ukitake.
“Always, now my dear Shiro-koi, would you can to join me for some sake and perhaps a game of Go?” asked Shunsui as he smiled gently at the sickly taicho.
“Delighted to Shun.” answered Ukitake and both men began to make their way back to the Squad 13 complex.

Time had no meaning for Gin. Voices would pull him from the darkness, but the pain would send him back. Finally one voice seemed to be calling him from the darkness. Though the darkness seemed to wrap its welcoming arms around him, Gin pushed it aside. This voice seemed to be desperately calling to him and he felt compelled to answer.
“Taicho…, I’m so sorry I doubted you. Please don’t die.” whimpered the sad and quiet voice that pulled him from the dark void that still called to him. Gin opened his eyes slightly and saw a young blonde man sitting at his bed side. His bangs covered his face but Gin knew immediately who sat at his bed side.
“ Kira.” Gin whispered and the young man looked up suddenly eyes wide and though joy played across his face Gin could see the exhaustion in the dark circles beneath his eyes. Kira moved closer to Gin and collapsed beside the bed his face buried in Gin’s uninjured shoulder as Kira’s tears began to soak through his hospital yukata.
“Taicho, please don’t leave me behind again.” cried Kira.
“Kira.” Retsu said from the doorway as she glided into the room. “Ichimaru-taicho will be alright but you on the other hand are about to collapse from exhaustion. Please return to your home and rest ill make sure Ichimaru -taicho is well cared for. You will do him no good if you can barely stand yourself.” With a smile, Retsu ushered Kira out of the room.
A few minutes later she returned and placed glowing blue hands upon Gin. He felt some of his pain leave and he began to drift as a comforting feeling began to radiate throughout his entire body.
“So, you are back from the other side. Did you have a pleasant trip?” smiled the beautiful taicho of Squad Four. The gentle smile of Unohana-taicho soothed Gin. There was such kindness that radiated from her. Though Gin knew from personal experience that looks could be deceiving and that gentle taicho could send fear straight to the soul with a single look.
“Pleasant is not a word I would use to describe the experience.” answered Gin.
“Is the pain better, Gin?” asked Retsu.
“Its bearable now.” answered Gin, though still in a great deal of pain.
“Liar.” stated Retsu gently then began to focus her reiatsu into the large gash left by Aizen’s zanpakuto. Retsu was almost finished with her healing for that day when the door to the room burst open and the busty Shinigami Matsumoto Rangiku rushed in.
“Gin, is it really you?” asked Rangiku with tears in her eyes.
“Ya its me.” answered Gin, tears threatening his eyes as well. Rangiku was one of the few people that Gin could seriously say he would die for. Though never lovers, Gin and Rangiku grew up together in the Rukon District helping each other survive.
“Bastard, why did you have to go and do something stupid like spy on Aizen?” asked Rangiku as she leaned her face down and gently kissed Gin on his forehead. “I missed you, you big dolt.”
“I missed you too, Rangiku.” smiled Gin weakly. Maybe the Gods were looking out for him after all. Even as his eye lids closed and he drifted off gently into sleep he thought ‘Maybe I’ll be able to keep that promise after all, Rangiku.’
