Chapter Two
Alexa’s eyes fluttered slightly; there was a dull pounding in her head and what little light there was in the room irritated the pain. She didn’t move for a while letting the sound and the scent of the room flow around her. She could tell that this room belonged to a woman; even without looking. It smelled like a woman’s apartment. She could also tell by the smell that there were two others living there. The others weren’t human though . . . it was other worldly and slightly ancient yet youthful at the same time.
Even in her human form her sense of smell was heightened to a sensitive level. The first and oldest scent was of strawberries with a hint of bean paste which lingered everywhere in the room. The next scent was one of the odd ones ancient and young, flowery and ashy but not like a smoker it would be rather difficult to describe in words and even more difficult for a normal human to detect it. But it wasn’t this scent that really caught Alexa’s attention it was the other strange one . . . this one was stronger than the other two; all around her; she was wrapped in this smell. It was male; this scent Alexa found herself captivated by this scent. It was soft and sharp at the same time; this scent it froze and shifted. Icy; this was an icy scent. Familiar and unfamiliar; Alexa frowned slightly as she tried to place the scent. Images of a masked creature; a spirit, a bite wound.
Alexa felt her shoulder throb and winced; she remembered the teeth sinking in and the sound of the spirit howling. The smell of blood; that icy scent that appeared; she could remember the feeling of burning up from the inside; the arms that went around her. The struggle to maintain consciousness and blurry features hovering over her; the most intense aqua eyes she had ever seen, a glimpse of white on black; the word Shinigami followed by the black of unconsciousness.
Slowly Alexa opened her eyes to the dim light of a lamp; she could already tell from the feel that she was lying on a couch. She stared at the ceiling above her; there was no need to look down to tell that the garment wrapped around her was a coat of sorts a white coat. Who ever had come to her rescue had obviously been desperate to bring down her fever. Alexa could also tell that whoever it was; they were still fairly close by.
After a few moments Alexa sat up to look around her. The room coming into focus looked as she had pictured it; simple. Looking down Alexa saw the coat that had been wrapped around her; white and the symbol for ten on the back. She looked around the room but couldn’t see anyone. Alexa sniffed the air and caught the icy scent coming from the balcony; ignoring the pain in her arm she slowly got to her feet and began to follow the trail around the couch and out the balcony door. The coat in one hand; she didn’t have to worry about being exposed since whoever had put her clothing back on obviously drying it. Alexa paused and looked over the balcony; this town was a nice view despite all its spiritual activity. Sniffing again she could tell that the person was on the roof top. Summoning up her strength and a puff of smoke she transformed into the giant cat and leapt up onto the roof and transformed back into herself. First thing she saw was a crown of white hair.
“You shouldn’t be moving around so much in your condition; you could end up causing yourself permanent damage.” His voice was probably about as cool as his scent which carried right through to the entire aura around him.
“I’m fine; the pain is mostly gone already.” Alexa replied; she was answered by a short
“Humph,” Alexa frowned a little at this. It was becoming apparent as to why his aura had an icy feel to it. She decided to move closer to him; curious to see his face.
“You saved me from that spirit?” She asked inching closer to him; she could tell that he was paying close attention to her movements. He might expect an attack or something.
“Ah . . .” He replied shortly; Alexa stopped just next to him and looked down at him. His eyes immediately met hers and she found herself flinch a little in surprise and shock at the unfamiliar flare of emotion. His eyes; so intense and such an intense color to go along with them; Alexa’s eyes scanned his face slowly. She wondered if you would call it a baby face; he looked so young but she knew better than that. That icy aura also gave off an air of being older than his appearance. She shook her head; snapping herself out of her sudden daze. Irritation suddenly flared in her; ‘what the heck was that!?’ she thought.
“Who are you?” Alexa asked; he was looking at the stars then his eyes met hers again as he answered.
“Hitsugaya Toushiro; Captain Hitsugaya Toushiro,” he said.
