Zanpakutos and masks

Disclaimer: Damn it I still don’t own Bleach and I still don’t make money from it. I do own this fiction and the OC, Toya whom will be introduced in the next chapter.

Warning: This is Yaoi which means boy x boy. If you don’t like that sort of thing then what the heck are you doing in the Yaoi section of AFF.

Yakumo~ Thanks for your review I was jumping up and down when I saw it yelling “I got a review and it didn’t say get the hell off of AFF.” And yea I hate the thought of Gin being all bad so in my mind I just had to make him the good guy plus not nearly enough fiction is wrote about Gin. Thank you for the review and yes I do plan on taking this fiction to a conclusion if at all possible. \(^ ^)/

Pairing: Byakuya X Gin

Chapter Two

Gin slowly opened his eyes and scanned the room. It was a standard hospital room with a single bed, two uncomfortable looking chairs, and a bedside table. The shades were drawn which made it impossible for Gin to guess at the time of day. Cautious of his injuries, Gin slowly moved to a sitting position with his feet dangling onto the cold floor. Glancing to the table and seeing that Shinso had been placed upon a stand on the table, Gin reached and grasped zanpakuto.

‘Shinso, are ya awake?’ Gin asked his zanpakuto.

‘Ah, finally awake enough to carry on a conversation, are we?’ growled Shinso to his master.

‘Glad to see ya in such good spirits, Shinso.’ joked Gin as he attempted to stand only to collapse once again onto the bed. Pain was beginning to throb through his body but the pressing concern of his bladder gave Gin the strength to pull himself up using the table as a brace. ‘You are a fucking idiot, Gin. Do you want to end up unconscious and bleeding on the ground’ yelled Shinso in his mind as Gin wobbled precariously, threatening to fall over at a moment’s notice.

‘Shut up, Shinso’ muttered Gin as he extended Shinso’s length so that he could use the zanpakuto as a crutch. Leaning heavily on Shinso, Gin began the seemingly long trek towards the bathroom that was situated on the opposite side of the room. ‘Un-fucking-believable.’ yelled Shinso ‘I have been reduced to a fucking crutch because you are too proud to fucking call for help, you fucking idiot.’

Gin reached up and rubbed his temple at the beginning of a headache as if his body didn’t throb enough as is, Shinso had to go and make his head hurt as well. Enough is enough, time to put Shinso back in his place.

‘Just shut the hell up, Shinso, before ya really make me mad and ya do remember what happened the last time ya pissed me off, don’t ya.’ Gin grinned evilly at the thought of the last time he and Shinso had come to words. The plus side of that memory being that Shinso had given in and allowed Gin the use of his Bankai. Muttering could be heard in his mind but the threat quelled the shouting as Shinso relented.

Gin barely made it to the bathroom. Leaning heavily against the wall in an attempt to gain control over the pain that seemed to radiate from the wound in his chest. The broken ribs didn’t help any as they sent pain dancing along his spine every time he inhaled. Finishing his business as quickly as possible, Gin began the seemingly long walk back to the bed as darkness gathered on the edge of his consciousness.

‘I’m not gonna make it’ Gin thought to himself as the room began to spin and the darkness seemed prepared to claim him once again. He felt himself falling and braced for the incoming impact that was sure to reopen his wounds. The impact never came. Strong hands gripped his shoulders gently but firmly and guided him back to the bed. Gin’s strength completely left him and he collapsed upon the soft mattress, gasping for breath and forcing the darkness back.

“You could have injured yourself worse” a cultured voice stated blandly. Gin turned his head and looked towards his rescuer, his narrow eyes widening in shock. There stood Kuchiki Byakuya in all his noble glory. Not a piece of cloth wrinkled nor a hair out of place. The beautiful lips of which he had never seen a smile grace, turned down even more as he assisted Gin into a more comfortable position.

For a moment, Gin allowed his thoughts wander. ‘I wonder what it would be like to muss that hair.’ thought Gin. Shaking his head slightly to clear that thought from his mind. There was a time when Gin would have done everything in his power to earn the attention of Kuchiki Byakuya. ‘I ‘m in no shape to deal with him like I am. Its best if I conclude this visit quickly before I betray my feelings’ Gin sighed and turned his attention to the face of the man that starred in all of his fantasies for the last hundred years.

“Kuchiki-taicho, I gotta say, ya are the last person I expected to come a visiting little ole me” Gin said as he plastered his trademarked grin upon his face. That grin had long since been the mask that Gin used to hide himself behind. Even Rangiku was rarely graced with the true face and emotions of Gin.

“I see…..Unohana-taicho has not yet informed you.” surmised Byakuya “You shall be staying at the Kuchiki Estate until you are fit to resume your duties to Squad Three.”

To say that Gin was shocked was an understatement. His grinning façade dropped and his naturally slanted eyes widened almost to a comical proportion, allowing Byakuya a glimpse of the stunning crimson orbs that were normally hidden. For a moment, Byakuya was allowed to see the true Gin. A man filled with pain and insecurities that appeared out of place in the seemingly playful man.
His eyes had always been the part of him that betrayed him, even Aizen in all the years that they had been together, had only seen his eyes once. Just as fast as they had opened, Gin hid his eyes at once and placed upon his face the smiling mask that was his barrier of protection from others.

“Why would the great Kuchiki Byakuya lower himself to caring for someone such as myself?” asked Gin, his mask now firmly reinforced.

“I volunteered my home.” stated Byakuya stoically, no emotion visible on that stunning face.

‘Great, we will be staying with the king of stunted emotions. That’s just what I need two emotionally stunted people trying to live together’ came Shinso’s voice in Gin’s mind but try as he may to act like an asshole, Gin knew better. Shinso had always held high respect for the nobleman. Seems both him and his zanpakuto were drawn to the Kuchiki heir.

“Why?” asked Gin, “There’s no love lost between us.”

Byakuya fixed his steel colored eyes on Gin. “You tried to warn me. Of all the people in Seireitei, you chose to warn me of the upcoming danger and I brushed you off. I owe you this much”

Gin’s eyes cracked open slightly to gaze upon the object of his fantasies as a twinge caused his heart ache with a pain that had nothing to do with his injuries. “Ya don’t owe me shit.” growled Gin trying to recover some of his control that Byakuya was all to easy at destroying.

Byakuya remained silent his eyes traveling over Gin as he took in the various injuries some bandaged while other minor injuries remained uncovered. ‘Its amazing that he has survived with those injuries’ thought Byakuya. He allowed a small amount of pity to filter through his icy demeanor. This did not go unnoticed by Gin and it pissed him off.

“Hn…. So ya pity me?” purred Gin, growing angrier by the second. It wasn’t pity that he wanted from the nobleman. ‘Show me anything but pity’ raged Gin to himself as he struggled to keep the grinning mask on his face.

“Let me help you.” Byakuya stated quietly “My servants will be helpful to you for the next few weeks while you are still weak. Look what almost happened when you walked 6ft to the bathroom.”

“Ever the honorable Kuchiki.” muttered Gin “Fine, I’ll stay with ya.”
It irked Gin to give in to Byakuya’s proposal but he knew that as he is there is no way he would be able to care for himself and the thought of remaining in this tiny room much longer sent chills down his spine. ‘I need open spaces’ thought Gin ‘I’ll jus swallow my pride and accept his invitation.’

“Now get out so I can sleep” growled Gin as he completely closed his eyes and attempted to sleep. The next few weeks were going to seriously try his control. ‘Shinso is never gonna let me hear the end of this’ thought Gin.

“Thank you for allowing me to do this for you.” said Byakuya as he turned and glided out of the room and went to seek out the Fourth Division taicho. He found her sitting in her office, enjoying a cup of tea.

“Would you care to join me, Byakuya?” asked Retsu pouring him a cup when he settled in a chair at the table and nodded.

“Is Ichimaru-taicho able to be moved soon?” asked Byakuya after taking a sip of the tea. It really was very good tea. ‘Retsu has always had fine taste in tea’ thought Byakuya as he allowed the calming essences in the tea to take effect. For some reason he was more than a little flustered from his encounter with Gin and the tea was just what he needed to calm his nerves.

“Hmm, he seems strong enough and I will see that he has plenty of pain relief for the move. Though it isn’t extremely far to the Kuchiki Estate, in his state simply moving across the hall would strain him.” answered Retsu gently.

Byakuya placed his empty cup upon the table a stood. Bowing slightly to Retsu, Byakuya turned to leave the office.

“Byakuya!” called Retsu from behind. Byakuya turned to his name not bothering to verbally answer.

“I have a feeling that this will be good for both you and Gin.” Retsu smiled.

Byakuya nodded and with that was gone from her sight to finish the paper work in his office before heading home to arrange with his servants for Gin’s presence at the estate. Byakuya grimaced at the thought of the shock his servants were in for when he announced that Ichimaru Gin would be staying at the Kuchiki Estate for a few weeks to recover. ‘I wonder if this is a mistake’ Byakuya mused before gliding towards the Sixth Division offices.
