Chapter Three
A slender young man stood watching the sun dip into the horizon, painting the sky in deep oranges and reds. The call of birds to their mates echoed through the trees. He closed his eyes as a warm breeze teased his cheeks and ruffled his short blonde hair. It seemed like only yesterday that he had arrived at the small hut and now he was preparing to go to Seireitei and the Shinigami Academy. On his eighteenth, Keisuke-sensei had decided that Izuru was ready to begin attending the shinigami academy. The statement had brought mixed feelings to Izuru.
Thinking back over the last few years he knew that he was very lucky. He had never been forced to miss meals and had a warm abet old roof over his head since finding a home with the old Kidou instructor. His teacher, though odd sometimes, had trained him extensively in Kidou basics. And he’d had Dai to keep him company. He smiled sadly at the thought of Dai. He knew Dai loved him and though they had been lovers for a year, Izuru couldn’t bring him to care about the older boy as more than a very dear friend. Dai knew this and it obviously pained him. Though they were lovers, Izuru knew that Dai wasn’t the one to possess his soul. In the end, he knew he would hurt the other man. Izuru sensed the approach of his lover but continued to stare at the sunset.
Arms wrapped around him from behind, and a chin rested on his shoulder. Smiling slightly, Izuru turned to look at his lover. Dai was a stunning man. Long black hair that nearly reached the small of his back fell in a thick curtain swaying as he moved. His features had grown out of his boyish softness to form a firm jaw and high cheekbones. His shoulders were wide and narrowed into slim hips and strong legs. Dai always drew the longing looks of both men and women. That comforted Izuru slightly, knowing that Dai would not long for companionship after he was gone.
“Why are you out here all alone?” asked Dai as he ran a hand over Izuru’s chest pausing to tease the cloth covered nipple. Izuru gasped as lightning shot from his nipple to his crotch. Dai’s lips teased along his jaw and paused to nip at his chin. The exploring hand slipped into the opening of his kimono and teased along his bare skin.
“Ah…just…thinking.” stammered Izuru as Dai’s questing hand brushed over his growing erection. Izuru was quickly losing the ability to think straight. Dai’s tongue and teeth were devouring Izuru’s neck while his hands untied the belt that held his kimono together. Dai’s lips trailed down to a flat pink nipple. Running his tongue around the areola, he pulled back and blew lightly on the damp skin. The nipple drew up tight and Izuru whimpered. Grinning, Dai bit down hard on the nipple at the same time that he grasped the erection hard, knowing Izuru liked a little pain with his pleasure. Izuru cried out hoarsely at the mixture of pain and pleasure.
“You are so responsive today, Izuru.” murmured Dai as he continued to rub Izuru’s erection roughly causing pre-cum to ooze from the tip allowing his hand to slide more smoothly. This was the last time they would be together and it added an extra fire to their loving. Biting roughly on the bared shoulder, Dai struggled to release his own erection while keeping up the rough touches on Izuru. Izuru reached up and grabbed Dai’s face between his hands, smashing their lips together in an impassioned kiss. Dai thrust his tongue between the lips. Izuru sucked on the tongue as it pushed between his lips, dropping one hand to help Dai free himself from his hakama. Dai let out a sigh when Izuru’s hands finally freed his erection and grasped it firmly.
Izuru smiled and nipped at Dai’s lower lip drawing a small gasp from the other man. Pulling Dai closer until both their erections rubbed against each other, drawing pants and moans from both men. Izuru bucked his hips against Dai and growled in this throat as Dai continued to rub the erections together. Their breaths panted against each other’s lips. Dai knew Izuru was close from the pants and rumbling growls that escaped from his lips.
“Ngh…I’m close.” groaned Izuru, between panting breaths. He could feel the building of the pressure in his balls as they prepared to release their load. Izuru arched and ground his hips against Dai in a plea for release.
Keeping one hand occupied with rubbing the erections together, Dai’s other hand inched beneath Izuru’s erection to the stretch of skin between the base of his erection and his balls. Pressing firmly into the sensitive area while biting harshly on Izuru’s shoulder, sent the blonde over the edge. Izuru threw his head back and moaned as his body began to spasm, shooting long strings of white cum between their sweat glistening bodies. Izuru continued his stroking of Dai, and moments later Dai followed him over the precipice.
Panting, Dai leaned his forehead against Izuru’s. Their breath mingled and their heartbeats slowed. Pulling a cloth from his pocket, Izuru wiped them both clean. Straightening their clothes, Dai looked as Izuru healed the bite and kiss marks from his body with a faint glow of Kidou. His heart ached a little. He had fallen in love with the quiet boy with the sad eyes almost from the beginning. He knew Izuru loved him but it wasn’t the same type of love. He had hoped that it would change after they became lovers but it never did. Dai knew that Izuru merely used him to ease the ache of loneliness.
“You don’t have to go. You can stay here with me. We can build a life together.” said Dai to Izuru as he finished up healing the marks. Izuru smiled a sad smile. Dai knew what was coming but it didn’t make it hurt any less.
“You already know the answer.” whispered Izuru. A tear leaked out from Dai’s sad eyes. Izuru pulled the other man into his arms. He really would miss the playful smiles and teasing conversations, but something in Izuru’s mind whispered that this was not where he was meant to spend his life. He was meant for something different, just as Dai was meant to find someone who could truly give all of their soul to him.
“When do you leave?” asked Dai quietly.
“Tomorrow, Keisuke-sensei has already sent word of my arrival. One of my family, has agreed to take me to the Seireitei gates.” answered Izuru.
“Dai….” began Izuru seeing the remaining sadness in the other mans face. Dai held up a hand.
“It just hurts to know that I’m not the keeper of your heart. I had thought that I could change you, but in the end I only ended up hurting myself.” said Dai. Shaking his head, causing the dark hair to fall in a thick curtain around his face. Izuru reached up and tucked it behind the other man’s ears.
“I’m not who you need. What we had was just the presence of another soul to fight back the chill of loneliness. You will find someone that else. I know that person will give you their whole being body and soul. You deserve happiness and truthfully, I was a little selfish to steal part of your heart when I knew it would end like this.” said Izuru as he draped an arm around Dai. Dai leaned into the warmth one last time. This was the end for them. It was bittersweet and left Dai feeling happy and sad at the same time.
“I think my heart is big enough to spare a little bit.” grinned Dai, trying to ease the ache if only a little. Izuru walked with the other man until they reached the road. Dai turned to Izuru, and taking his face in his hands, gently lowered his lips until they touched. Tracing his tongue over the seem, Dai teased until Izuru opened with a sigh. The kiss was slow and gentle. It held none of the heated passion that had been spent earlier. Instead, it held the bittersweet tenderness of goodbye. Dai pulled back and looked into Izuru’s deep blue eyes.
“I wont be there to see you off. But know that I will miss you.” said Dai as he stepped back. Izuru nodded.
“I will miss you as well. Take care of yourself.” Izuru said sadly. He felt as if he was losing his best friend. Turning, he began to walk up the hill that would lead him to the small house that had become more of a home in the last few years.
“Promise you will write to me after you get settled.” yelled Dai. Izuru turned and smiled. Nodding to the other man, Izuru made his way home. His heart slightly less heavy knowing that Dai would be fine.
Morning came quickly and Izuru took his bags and loaded it into the carriage. His cousin, Mino Kira, stepped from the interior and smiling pulled Izuru into a warm hug. After a few months of living with Keisuke-sensei, Izuru had contacted a few of his father’s relatives. They had offered to bring him to live with them but Izuru had refused stating that he was studying with a sensei and it would be easier if he continued to live with him. The elders of the family, disgusted at the way Izuru’s uncle had treated him, set up a small trust fund for him. Izuru had graciously accepted it and promptly began investing it.
Since his acquirement of the fund five years earlier, he had tripled it’s worth. Izuru continued to reinvest any earnings, avoiding using the money except for the very bare essentials. It seemed that Izuru had inherited his father’s gift for finance. Several of the family had noticed this and offered to set up Izuru in a job similar to his father. Izuru had politely refused stating that his future was not meant to follow his father, but to instead follow his own path. The elders had supported his decision reluctantly. Izuru was a noble after all and should remain close to the family.
“I know you will do well.” said Keisuke as he stepped forward to pull Izuru into a firm hug. This man had been like a father to him and he would miss him dearly. Izuru nodded into the old man’s shoulder breathing in the smell of soap and freshly turned soil.
Several of his friends had gathered to see him off. Looking but not seeing Dai, Izuru kicked himself for hoping that the smiling man would be there to see him off. Smiling to his friends, he bowed to each of them and pulled himself into the carriage stealing one last glimpse of his friends and teacher. A blur of blue caught his eye and there was Dai stepping around the side of the house. Raising his hand, Dai waved to his dearest friend. Izuru smiled, his heart lifted at the sight of Dai coming to see him off even after he had said he wouldn’t be there. Izuru raised his hand to Dai before stepping into the carriage. As the carriage pulled away, Dai stood there watching until it disappeared, his face streaked with tears. Turning, he made his way back to his house.
The ride to the Academy took most of the day. Watching the passing scenery, Izuru wondered what it would be like in the academy. Would he fit in with the other recruits or would he stick out? Would he have friends there or would the loneliness eat away at him? The one thought that never left his mind was would he find the mysterious Wabisuke here?
Izuru had inquired to Keisuke-sensei about the mysterious man that he had encountered while injured. Keisuke had simply puffed on his pipe and muttered something about impatient boys and that all would be revealed in time. Though Izuru was proficient in Kidou, he was still an apprentice. Keisuke-sensei had explained that it would take at least a century of practice to even attempt to master Kidou and Izuru had only been exposed to it for five years. Keisuke said his job was to prepare Izuru for the academy and they would handle the rest.
As the day wore on, Izuru became more anxious. Mino attempted to soothe the anxious boy but to no avail. About an hour before sunset, the carriage pulled up to a large building. Izuru could see several smaller buildings dotting off on either side of the larger one. Stepping from the carriage and collecting his personal effects from inside, Izuru bowed to his cousin who simply pulled him into a giant bear hug.
“I’ll be staying in Rukon district one for a week for business, if you change your mind come find me.” said the large man. Izuru nodded but knew that he would remain here even if it killed him. With a final pat on Izuru’s shoulder, the man pulled himself back into the carriage and signaled for the driver to head out. Izuru stood watching the carriage pull away before gathering his things and proceeding into the building. After several missed turns and bad directions, Izuru found himself in front of a small office. The attractive woman behind a desk settled his paperwork efficiently, provided him with the required uniforms, and gave him directions to the student dormitory. Breathing a sigh of relief, having gotten that part over with, Izuru walked towards the men’s dormitory. Several men stood outside the dormitory talking and drinking. Izuru passed them and made his way into the large building. Izuru noticed that many of the students were obviously from wealthy or noble families. Their clothing and demeanor oozed wealth. Not that Izuru cared, he could easily socialize with both sides of the social spectrum, a result of his upbringing. Izuru’s father although a minor noble, had refused to treat the poor as less than themselves. Everyone was equal in his father’s eyes. In later years, Izuru had found himself more comfortable with the lower class than with his own wealthy family.
Walking down a hall, Izuru saw a blur of red hair before he was shoved against the wall as said redhead attempted to chase another student. The redhead stopped and assisted Izuru to his feet.
“Sorry, I’m kind of in a rush.” said the redhead before he took off down the hall again. Izuru stared after the man. That was an odd encounter. He had never seen anyone with hair quite that red before. Izuru made a mental note to keep an eye out for the redhead. His accent informed Izuru that he was from some of the lower districts and had probably lived on the streets for at least some of his life.
Opening the door of his room, Izuru set aside his belongings to be unpacked later and collapsed on the bed. The room was bare of everything but the barest essentials, containing only a small desk, bed, chest of drawers, and a chair. On the chest of drawers, Izuru found it odd that there was a sword stand. He knew that he would be assigned a katana but he didn’t think that the academy would provide him with a stand for it. This place got more curious by the minute. Izuru settled himself under the covers and gradually allowed his body to be pulled into sleep. Tomorrow would come soon enough.
