The Chamber of Regeneration
Dun dun dun chappie six after like...too long. We're halfway finished and is Hitsugaya healed, is he okay...we're getting nearer to the end. Enjoy:D please do ignore the spelling errors but if there is an obvious one...let me know
Chapter 5
The Chamber of Regeneration
Orihime stood silently with her friends as Unohana ran her final checks over Hitsugaya. It was getting more worrisome by the minute, and she could even see the strains of the situation on Unohana’s face. She hoped they would be able to find out what was going on. She felt useless that her technique could not help the young Captain, almost as if she had failed. Surprised when a heavy hand landed on her shoulder she looked up at Sado. He had a kind look in his eye, something she needed to see.
Nodding she turned back to the small body floating quietly. Small particles from Hitsugaya’s body filtered through the soft glowing blue liquid he was submersed in. He seemed to have stopped disintegrating but when she looked closely Orihime could tell the particles were trying to break free from the bubble. Glancing briefly at Ichigo and Renji she sighed. Neither had said a thing since they had entered the room and Rukia wasn’t any better. Gripping her shirt tighter as Hitsugaya’s screams came back to her she gritted her teeth, what were they going to do?

Unohana came to stand with them finally deeming Hitsugaya in a stable condition but her eyes remained weary. “Will this really help?” Ichigo asked.
Unohana gave him an unsure smile. “I guess we’ll just have to wait and find out.”
“What exactly does this Chamber do?” Renji asked looking at her.
Unohana folded her arms across her chest and rested her eyes on Hitsugaya. “It does as it says, it regenerates. This Chamber is primarily used for emergency situations when a soul has soul deterioration or spirit particle death. We rarely have such cases, that’s why the Chamber is still starting up.”
Ichigo turned to her alarmed. “You mean to tell me that this thing isn’t even turned on yet?!” He shouted accidentally resulting in Renji bashing him over the head.
“Wouldn’t that comfort you instead to know that even in this range of power, Hitsugaya is barely degenerating?” Unohana asked with a sly smile. Ichigo turned back to the bubble and suddenly realized that the Chamber of Regeneration was much more powerful than he had thought. “However, we don’t know if this will help him entirely.” She added quietly but loud enough for them to hear.
“How is it keeping him together?” Orihime asked.
“His body is, in a way, frozen.” Unohana replied. “I don’t know whether or not the degeneration has stopped or if it has just been slowed down. One thing I do know, is that it is working to keep him all here. I just hope he is able to rest better here.” She knew that Hitsugaya was still suffering, he never let his pain show before, he wouldn’t now. He was fighting an internal battle all on his own.
The door opened and Matsumoto entered. “How is he doing?”
“Much better, but we shall wait and see.” Unohana answered watching her squad continue to monitor the stats.
“Do you know what’s happening Unohana-taicho?” Matsumoto asked. “Why is this happening?”
Unohana took a deep breath. “We know for sure now that the Hollow takes Hitsugaya’s reiatsu, taking away his life fore, so that he may live and cause damage. Hitsugaya’s body has lost twenty percent of it’s usual mass, meaning the Hollow has already taken quite a bit of power. It was going slowly at first, but I’m guessing that now because Kenpachi has been tracking him and attacking him the Hollow needs more power.
“With all of this, the Hollow is quickening Hitsugaya’s destruction. Whether or not the Hollow will attack another Taicho is up in the air. We don’t know what we’ll do if that situation occurs.” Unohana took a seat by a far wall and waited for them to sit. “Because Hitsugaya is a living spirit, the Hollow will continue to have a constant supply of reiatsu.”
“Unohana-taicho, could Hitsugaya be affected because the Hollow is close by?” Rukia asked.
“I have thought of this theory, but based on previous incidences with the Hollow this has been proved false. He could be anywhere and take reiatsu from his victims.” Rukia nodded back to square one. This was getting them no where. “There is another victim, the little girl whom Hitsugaya tried to save. She is suffering from this condition as well but not as severely. I’m guessing that the Hollow would have used all of her power already if he had to fight Kenpachi.”
“So the little girl is here in this hospital?” Ichigo asked quickly.
“Yes, she’s-” Before Unohana could finish Ichigo was already out the door, “hm, I wonder if he’ll get lost and disrupt some of my patients.” Everyone sweatdropped. “We will have to leave soon, if you wish to observe Hitsugaya you will have to walk on the bridge above us.” Unohana said indicating the thin black bridge spanned across the ceiling. “It’s where regenerated souls are placed when they need to regain their memories.”
“The Bridge of Reminiscence…” Rukia muttered.
“Come on, we should move out now.” Unohana said and made her way out closely followed by the group. “I will let you know when it is okay to go up onto the bridge, do not go up there without permission or supervision, you might get someone’s memories that you don’t want.”

Ichigo gulped as he walked. He couldn’t cause too much of a racket or he would get in trouble but he needed to talk to the little girl. Spotting Hanatarou up ahead he quickly caught up with the shorter man. “Hanatarou, where’s the little girl that Hitsugaya saved?”
“Oh, hello Ichigo, I was just heading over to check on her, you can join me if you want to.” Ichigo nodded and followed after him. “What’re you doing here anyway? I didn’t think I would see you.”
“Unohana called us here to help you guys out somehow.” Ichigo said.
“Oh, well, it doesn’t surprise me. Not that I get in on any of the action, but I have heard that Kenpachi is having a hard time with the Hollow.”
“Where did you hear that?” Ichigo asked.
“Just some of the random eleventh division came in with injuries and were talking about how difficult it is. The Hollow is using Hitsugaya as an energy source after all, it’s like two taicho’s are fighting each other.” Ichigo stopped in his tracks. This was becoming more serious by the second, how the hell were they supposed to beat this thing?

The little girl sat making origami figures. Hanatarou helped her whenever she couldn’t fold one piece. She was very talented. Even though she only had one hand. Ichigo sat quietly but he was ready to burst. She laughed and then turned to look at him. “Sorry, I just really wanted to get that one done. It’s for Hitsugaya-nii-chan so he gets better sooner.” She said a sad smile playing on her lips. “Have you seen him?”
“Yeah, he’s asleep right now.” Ichigo informed. “What’s your name?”
“Tomoyo,” she answered.
“Tomoyo-chan, what happened to Toshiro the night that he saved you?”
She pressed her finger to her lips in thought. “Well, the Hollow was chasing me, but nii-chan saved me. The Hollow said some things to him, I was spirit particles at this point I’m not really sure. I know he used some of my hand to regenerate though which is why I know some things. He said that he had been doing this to Shinigami for a long time, so nii-chan was just another one to add to his victims. I don’t really know what he said to nii-chan, but he said something about an ice-encased heart, and that he needed to free it in order to stop him from stealing his energy.”
Ichigo pat her on the head and smiled appreciatively. “Thank you very much Tomoyo.”
“Will you be able to save me and nii-chan?”
“I don’t know. Do you have a very special person?”
“Hm, my mom, but she’s still alive. Why?”
Ichigo smiled sadly. “I’m sure your mom loves you very much and still does. That’s probably why you’re still here chattin’ with me.” Ichigo’s eyes widened in realization, he thanked her quickly and went to find Byakuya.
Walking quickly he found the stoic captain on the way to the Chamber and stopped him. “What?” Byakuya asked.
“When will you be able to get Kenpachi’s mission called off?” He asked quickly.
“Why would this need to be done, Kurosaki?”
“Because we need more time to figure out how to heal Toshiro, and if Kenpachi’s interfering with this wouldn’t it be better if we left the Hollow alone for a while?”
“And let him find more victims?”
Ichigo looked at him sternly. “Toshiro is dying, and all you can think about it killing the Hollow.”
“If Hitsugaya is to die in the process of killing this Hollow he will be grieved. But sometimes that is the price some of us have to pay, to save others. Don’t you think so Kurosaki?” Byakuya said continuing to head to his destination.
“That’s not the point. If we can figure out how to defeat this thing without killing Toshiro don’t ya think that’s a better option?!” Ichigo yelled angrily causing some of the 4th division members to look at him.
“We all want the best options, but as you can see, we don’t know the significant fact here Kurosaki. We don’t know who Hitsugaya-taicho needs. And until that has been determined or he has said something, we have to only use this option.” Byakuya said eyes narrowing. “I suggest you take a breather for a while Kurosaki, you’re disturbing Unohana’s patients.”
Ichigo clenched his fists tightly. Renji’s hand landed on his shoulder. “At this rate he’s going to die.”
Renji sighed and released Ichigo’s shoulder. “We just have to wait until he’s stable and ask him, and get an answer this time, if he wants to.”
“That doesn’t matter right now, we’re getting an answer, and this Hollow is going to be destroyed without his fatality or Tomoyo’s.” Ichigo promised.
