Old Acquaintances

Chapter 5
Old Acquaintances

Rina was terrified. Her Reiatsu, both pools, were currently sealed. She had tried to warn Soft Voice about the perils of doing so, how when the seals came off it would be the same as opening the flood gates of a river.

Despite that fear though she feared for ‘take-ji’s health more. He had been in such terrible shape when she had seen him last.

“Are you ready my child?” Soft Voice asked.
She looked at the large machine he wanted her to power in terror and her voice stemmed when she asked her question.

“What about ‘take-ji? You promised to let him go.”

“And he will be set free the moment your task is complete.” he assured her with a soft purr. “All you have to do is charge this device, which will open the Jigoku no Monko and let me return home.”

“And we will both be set free, right?”

“I give you my word.”

She nodded and stepped up to the machine, one of the Oni helped her along until she was near the centre of the large machine, her wrist cuffed to either pole. She bit her lip and tried to remember how to channel both powers together.

The reiatsu restraints were removed and she felt her power flood forward, the pain of her own reiatsu combating itself ripped an agonized scream from her. The power was drawn to the two pillars and just like that she could feel both pools being rapidly and very painfully drained from her. The device hummed to life and Soft Voice roared in laughter.

“Message sent.” Kinomi declared as they approached the now active device. “Zan, get Rina, Taka, Hisagi, back him up. Yachiru, clear the gate.”

“Hai.” Everyone shouted as they took off to their respective roles.

Kinomi’s eyes darted around as she searched for the one responsible for all this. Sensing her desire the Hiuma bore her towards a figure in a black robe that was clearly not an Oni.

She drew Kyattsuai and kicked off from the Hiuma’s back, launching into Shunpo and aiming her blade for the mans neck. She felt her blade pierce flesh and blood sprayed in a wide arc.

“Too easy.” Her mind shouted in warning along side Kyattsuai’s own conclusion.

Pain blossomed and a sword pierced through her shoulder. Her vision wavered to show the man standing off to the side with his blade tainted red with her blood.

“Hmm, Pantera Kinomi, is that you child?” The man asked in clear amusement.

“Who are you?” She demanded.

“Oh, and dear me is that Volatil Taka as well? And both of you in disgusting Shinigami garb. Trust them to take such a great creation and use it as if they conceived it.” The man seemed disgusted.

Kinomi’s eyes narrowed before she jumped forward, bringing Kyattsuai around for another strike. Once more she felt the blade slice through him and once more the world wavered a moment later.

“Illusions.” She realized with a snarl. “Who are you?” She demanded.

He pulled the hood down and for a moment she thought it might have been Aizen, but he looked different. It was the eyes, they lacked the hidden malice she remembered from the times she had been forced in the man’s presence. His reiatsu also felt slightly different and some what off, not to mentions considerably weaker.

“Impossible.” Kyattsuai shouted in her mind.

“Who is he?” Kinomi demanded.

She felt the second spirit enter her mind and could feel the rage rolling off of the black gryphon. She had never felt so much anger before even as Kazeshini’s voice echoed through her mind.

“Kyouka Suigetsu.”

Kinomi stared at the being in shock, understanding now how he knew about Rina and her power and why he was so powerful with illusions.

“How in the seven hells is this possible?” She demanded in her mind of the two spirits. “And you should be helping Hisagi, why the hell are you in my inner world?”

“Hisagi is fine.”
Kazeshini was quick to assure her.

“You felt Kyattsuai’s distress and came.” She guessed correctly.

She cold feel the embarrassment rolling off of Kazeshini in waves.

“Get your bladed feathered ass back where you belong and if you ever abandon your partner in battle again for something so trivial not only will I forever lock you from my mind, but I will make sure you are dropped down the nearest well and have it filled with gravel and topped with concrete.” She roared in outrage.

She felt him bolt out of her mind and shook her head in annoyance before focusing on her opponent once more. This was not going to be a fun fight she could already tell. If only she knew how Shinji and the others had beaten Aizen she could at least have the basis of a plan. But she didn’t.

“This is the kind of fight where being a ranged fighter would be a big benefit.” She groused.

Kyattsuai agreed with her.

Kyatssuai! Kyatssuai could speak with Kazeshini! There was no reason to think she could not speak to Sougyo no Kotowari as well. If anyone here knew how that battle had gone it would be Sougyo no Kotowari and Ukitake.

“Kyattusai.” She called.

“Already on it. Can you survive without me for a few?”

“Go. I’ll live.”

Kyattsuai returned to her sealed state and she felt the white panther leave her mind.

“Surrendering already?” Kyouka Suigetsu asked with a purr.

“You wished. By the way, the name ain’t Pantera Kinomi.” She grinned at him. “It’s Kurosaki Pantera Kinomi.”

The former Zanpakuto narrowed his eyes at her.

“So Aizen didn’t know. I find that damn hilarious. Mr omnipotent didn’t know Grimm-ji brought Okaasan to the living world to get knocked up by Otousan.” She laughed.

Kyouka Suigetsu rushed at her with such speed she almost didn’t have time to parry. Still she laughed and their blades continued to cross in a shower of sparks. Suddenly she felt a sword begin to pierce her back and she leaped ahead and though the illusion of the person she had been fighting just in time to prevent herself from being impaled.

This was going to be hell alright, but that didn’t stop the wide grin from spreading across her face, one that would do Kenpachi-sensei proud and matched the one Yachiru-chan currently had.

Kyattsuai returned after several moments. Kinomi wasted no time unleashing her Bankai, taking the former Zanpakuto by surprise.

“Well?” Kinomi asked.

“They don’t know. Only the Vizard had been there and they left after dropping Aizen’s corpse off at Yamamoto’s feet.” Kyattsuai answered.

“That is not a good thing.” Kinomi sighed.

Zan stared at Rina, the sounds of her anguished scrams tearing his soul to shreds, but he wasn’t so sure that taking her off the device would be such a good thing with her power lashing about the way it was.

With a deep breath he started chanting, trying to drown out the anguished screams of Rina. He could not afford to mess up a Kidou this high or strong. He came to the end, the power flowing out of him and onto Rina.

For just a moment her Reiatsu was completely sealed and he sliced her away from the machine before pulling her up onto the back of the Hiuma and getting the hell out of dodge.

Hisagi and Taka were covering him from the air, the first whipping Kazeshini about in his Shikai state with such skill and precision that Zan could definitely see what his sister saw in the Zanpakuto, and the man wielding it. The second was covering him with bursts of Bala and long lines of Cero’s.

Safe in the air once more Zan was able to spot his sisters. She was swinging Kyattsuai about without any clear target while a man in a black robe stood watching rather amused. That couldn’t be good.

“Taka.” He shouted, dragging the woman’s attention to him. “Kinomi.” He shouted.

Taka spun about in the air to see the problem. The new man targeted she flung a cero his way.

Once more her vision wavered, but this time she heard the man curse as the illusion dropped. She caught the tail end of a cero and couldn’t help but to grin up at Taka.

Taka! Perfect!

“Target him.” She ordered.

“Already done.” Taka smirked.

With a grin Kinomi started to back off, a look of confusion crossed Kyouka Suigetsu’s face at her retreat.

“I already got to play with my strong opponents. Have fun, Taka-chan.” She shouted up to her companion.

Taka smiled back with a wide grin of delight before launching another Cero.

“Why?” Kyattsuai asked in shock.

Kinomi had never backed off an opponent before. She wasn’t quite as ‘mine’ as Kenpachi or Nnoitra were but she still had never not finished a fight she had started.

“I could play slash the shadows all day. Or Taka’s ranged attacks plus the accuracy of her Aguila Ojo could deal with the pest quickly.” She answered with a smirk. “Besides, I can’t keep all the fun for myself all the time. And truthfully, I am really worried about Ukitake-taichou and Rina-chan. I want to get them home as quickly as possible. We don’t have time to play and Taka is the best suited to deal with him quickly.”

Kyattsuai didn’t have an argument for that, in fact she agreed completely.

Kinomi turned her attention to where Zan was trying to meet up with Yachiru, both of them up in the air on the backs of their Hiuma. The Oni could not reach them up there and were shouting in frustration from the ground waving their clubs about.

Kinomi checked on the gate next. It was still sealed shut. She checked her communications devise, her message still on the screen. Cursing she hit the send button.

The sound of high pitched screeching drew her attention to the swarm of Jaki blackening the sky.

“Not good.” She hissed.

“Regroup.” She ordered sharply. “Jaki.”

Hisagi joined them, still mounted on the back of his Hiuma. Kazeshini’s blades were soaked in blood and this close she could feel the battle high the silver and black gryphon was under.

“Rina?” She called.

The young girl appeared to be completely unconscious at the moment. That was fine.

“We need to retreat.” Ukitake managed to cough out, more blood dribbling down from the corner of his lips, brining home her earlier argument to finish this quickly.

“Don’t talk.” Kinomi admonished. “Get to the gate. It should hopefully open soon. I am going to deal with the device.”

“What about Taka-chan and whoever the hell it is she is fighting?” Yachiru demanded.

“Would you believe me if I told you that is Kyouka Suigetsu?” She asked.

Everyone looked at her in disbelief.

“Get to the gate and get ready to take on those bloody Jaki. Taka will make it to us in no time I am sure.”

The others on their way Kinomi glared at the device. The swarm of Jaki were almost upon them.

“Come on guys. We are going to get swarmed over soon.” She thought with only the barest hint of desperation.

Her mount whined in anger and rose higher in the air. Apparently someone with a brain had gone to get spears and to make matters worse chariots were starting to rise to meet them as well.

Behind her she heard the Jigoku no Monko finally creak open. She didn’t care if this was the gate Akata had opened for them or one from some condemned soul about to come through. They needed to escape.

The swarm of Jaki were upon them. She heard the mounts of the others cry in pain as those wicked spears attacked them. They went thundering to the gates, Kidou spells being launched from Zan and Hisagi covered their asses the best they could.

“Hurry it up Taka.” She roared as she spurred her own mount not towards the gate, but the device.

She was surprised when the Hiuma didn’t protest as they barrelled towards the device. In fact it screamed out a challenge and charged fearlessly forward. Trusting her mount Kinomi began to draw as much reiatsu into her strike as she could with the intent to blow the device to pebbles and splinters.

Taka laughed as the former Zanpakuto all but bolted away from her in pure panic. His illusions meant nothing to the targeting of her Aguila Ojo. Apparently he was nothing compared to his former master and once you stripped his illusions away he was just another poor excuse of a coward.

It wasn’t even sporting as she chased him down. Behind her she heard Kinomi call for her to finish it. They were almost out of time. With the static of Sonido she appeared before him, even though all she could see was her marker floating in mid air.

She lashed out with a clawed hand and even though her eyes saw nothing but air, she felt her hand hit and go through something solid. At once the illusions shattered to reveal her hand through his chest.

He had a look of such shock and disbelief on his face that any other time Taka would have found it amusing. She pulled her now blood soaked hand back. His eyes glazed over in death shortly before he collapsed to the ground, very dead.

She didn’t stick around and dashed towards the now open gate with all the speed of her Sonido, severely disappointed what she couldn't even call a fight. Kinomi was going to have to owe her another one because this one sure as hell didn't count.

When Kinomi hit the device she had not expected it to explode. Well okay explode in the ‘break apart’ ideal, not in the actual ‘explosion with balls of fire and chain reactions’ way that had Zan seen it would have added, much to their annoyance and confusion no doubt, that 'it was a scene that would have done Michael Bay proud.'

Apparently there were some volatile parts of that device and the only thing that saved her from being caught in it was the fast reflexes of her mount as it spun about and galloped towards the Jigoku no Monko. The flames from the explosion was licking at their heels and she feared it was going to hit them all before they could get through the gate.

The shockwave at the head of the fire hit them, knocking them all about and off their mounts, but thankfully through the gate to the other side.

Ukitake and Yachiru came flying through first. The first was caught by a rather surprised Gin, Ukitake’s weight and momentum sending them both crashing to the ground. The second managed to right herself and land on her feet. Their mount remained air born and righted itself.

Hisagi was the next through. The hooves from his mount clipped his temple and sent him both unconscious and careening off to the side. Barbo managed to catch him before he could slam into the floor.

Zan and Rina where the next through. Somehow Zan had been able to keep a grip on both Rina and his mount. Taka came through right behind them. She crashed painfully on the floor not far from the gate, crying out in pain as one of her wings twisted at a very wrong angle that left those watching no doubt it had been horribly broken.

Kinomi and her mount were the last ones through. Her entire body was smoking and there were even a few flames. She crashed heavily onto the floor and skidded a few feet. The Jigoku no Monko slammed shut, cutting off the explosion before it could harm anyone in the room.

“Report.” She snapped even as she stumbled to her feet, only to be caught by Ulquiorra’s hand on her shoulder before she could collapse onto the floor again.

The sound of terribly coughing answered her and all eyes darted to where Ukitake still had Gin pinned under his weight, the elder mans shoulders shaking in giant heaves as he fought desperately for breath.

“Let me see him.” Orihime was quick to order.

Gin managed to crawl out from under the trembling taichou. Orihime fell to her knees by their side and quickly called up her shield.

“Report.” Kinomi snapped again.

“Fine.” Zan, Taka and Yachiru reported.

“Hisagi-san is bleeding at the temple and unconscious.” Barbo reported, bringing the man over to where Orihime was desperately trying to ease Ukitake’s suffering.

“Rina is still unconscious from my Kidou.” Zan reported.

“Get them to the medical wing at once. As soon as possible we need to…..”

“Kinomi-sama.”

Her gaze whirled to stare at Ulquiorra, who was still steadying her with one hand. He would never have interrupted her if it wasn’t important.

“What is it?” She demanded.

“A representative form Central 46 had just arrived and was demanding to seek your audience immediately shortly before our arrival.” he answered.

She did not have time for this.

“Tell them they can wait.” She snapped.

“He insist on seeing you immediately,” Hurón spoke up, “and still is.”

“Tell him he can go to Hell.” She snarled in annoyance. “And while there he can give us a report on how much damage we did.“ She couldn’t help but to add.

“Kinomi-san.” A new voice broke in.

Blinking Kinomi looked turned her attention to the young woman she had previously not noticed standing beside her retainer.

“ ‘Tsuki-chan? Why are you here?” Kinomi asked with a frown.

“I came with the representative. It is important.” She insisted.

Kinomi turned her attention back to the wounded. She was not in the mood on the best of days to deal with politicians and in her current condition it would take all of her will power to even think straight. But if Akata's sister hacked into the network to insure that she would be picked to come along, than something had to be up.

Some of her worry was alleviated when Ukitake’s coughing calmed down considerably and Orihime quickly healed the damage done to Hisagi’s temple, bringing him back up onto his feet, the only sign he had been injured was the blood still on his temple.

“Zan-kun, see to the Hiuma. Get Hinamori-san to take care of them for the moment then join me in the central chamber. Hime-chan, can you get Rina-chan and Ukitake-taichou to the infirmary for now and send Szayel up?”

“Yes.“ She answered without a moments hesitation.

“Thank you. Ulquiorra, escort our ‘guest’ to the throne room. I’ll be there as soon as I change my clothes.” She ordered, forcing herself to stand on her own two feet and shake the effect of being burnt and tossed about aside.

“I will assist.” Reina was quick to interject.

Kinomi didn’t waste time arguing as they all quickly scattered. Reina passing an order to Gin to get everyone of significant rank cleaned up and in the throne room as quickly as possible.

Kinomi didn’t argue with that order either. When it came to this political crap Reina knew best. They made it to Kinomi chambers in record time, rushing through the halls with Shunpo to save time.

Stay tuned for chapter 6: War’s declaration

Where Central 46 make a huge mistake and Kinomi finally breaks.

Sooooooooooooooo, I bet no one was thinking Kyouka Suigetsu was the culprit and that now everything makes sense about how the guy knew so much about everyone. For those that don’t remember, Kyouka Suigetsu is Aizen’s Zanpakuto.

As to how Kyouka Suigetsu ended up in hell, well lets just say as soon as Aizen’s soul was in the domain of the gods they saw fit to punish him by stripping him of his power, and since a Zanpakuto is technically part of a soul, it stand that they are thus a soul themselves. So when Aizen died Kyouka Suigetsu was sentenced to Jigoku. The rest I am sure you can guess what happened.

There will be an appearance from Enma-sama in a few chapters where more will be explained.

I know Taka took him out rather easily, but one thing that always drove me nuts is when someone has an ability to do serious harm or counter something and it never gets USED. Originally Kinomi was suppose to beat him but then I was like; wait, Taka has an ability to lock onto a target regardless of where that target is and it would be stupid for her not to! Her ability is the perfect counter to illusions, even though when I made Taka this arc wasn't even conceived yet. That and Kinomi already got to play with lots of fun people so Taka can have a bit of fun.

As usual /love my faithful reviewers and if you spot any spelling errors do not hesitate to point them out so I can fix the damn rodents. I also want you to know………..
