I do not own Bleach, nor the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Part VIII
Part VIII
Author's Note : This story is literally flowing out of me. I dream about it, and it just comes out. I really like this feeling, usually, if it isn't going so well, I suffer real bad writers block. But this story is coming alive. I hope it keeps going like this. Thanks again to my beta reader, and all the readers here at AFF.

Last Chapter *Kuchiki taicho was right. He didn't need to copy Renji at all. He would achieve so much more if he was just himself, trying to surpass Renji. With ambition renewed and fists clenched, Rikichi stepped back into the office, ready to face the world. Or at least, the next stack of paperwork.*
The work day ended without further incident, other than random Shinigami with random problems showing up at the office, and a visit by the 11th Division captain and his devil-child fukutaicho to see if either 6th division leaders wanted to spar. When Kuchiki taicho locked the doors to the office building that night, he turned to face Rikichi.
“Are you trying to learn Bankai?”
Rikichi made a face.
“Bankai? Hah... I wish. I'm still trying to get my zanpakuto to materialize.”
“Oh. I see. Don't you need to visit the 4th Division again, fukutaicho?”
“Yeah. I got to run. I'll see you tomorrow.”
“Its the weekend tomorrow. We have the day off, however you may come to do paperwork if you wish. I'll leave you the keys.”
“Ummm... no thanks, Taicho.”
“On second thought. Why don't you come tomorrow. Be here at midday.”
Rikichi frowned, but nodded anyways. It was best that he accept what Kuchiki taicho told him to do without complaint. He turned, and ran off towards the 4th Division building.
Unohana taicho was waiting for him, and led him to the examination room. Once he sat on the hard examination bed, Unohana proceeded to poke and prod at his face.
“You're healing well, Rikichi-san. The bruising is only light, and the swelling has all but disappeared. I'm glad to see that you have parted with your hairstyle from this morning. It made your nose look worse than it is. It should heal very well, and not leave any noticeable deformities. How was your day?”
“Other than the emergency call, it was pretty uneventful.”
“I see. Rikichi fukutaicho, I would greatly appreciate it if in the future you did not injure your subordinates quite so much... bruised ribs are hard to heal.”
“Gomen, Unohana taicho. I had to, he was trying to spur the rest of the division against me.”
“I understand, just try not to let it happen too often, alright? Anyways, you may leave.”
“Ok.”
“Are you going to go home and rest?”
Rikichi paused just before he went out the door.
“Nah, I'm going to train a bit first.”
He closed the division building's door and jogged slowly for the training building near his house. He hadn't really been there since he got accepted into the 6th division, now he usually sparred with his friends to keep his skills sharp. There had to be some changes to the way he trained now. He was a fukutaicho, random sparring matches once or twice a week were not adequate for improving his skills, and they sure weren't enough to make him stronger than Renji.
Once he got there he was greeted by some of the younger, less experienced shinigami, who hungrily eyed the badge on his arm. Not wanting to gather a crowd while he trained, he went to the manager and requested a private room to train in. He was sent to a smaller, empty room on the second floor. When he sat foot on the soft tatami, now barefoot, he felt a rush of energy circulate through his veins. Being here, it felt so right.
He practiced for hours, swinging his sword to defeat imaginary opponents, and even attempted to integrate some Hakuda into his movements. He had never been very good at martial arts, but he figured that training those skills might be a good idea. He cooled down from his training session by talking with his zanpakuto.
“What do you think, Kyuusaisha? Do you think I can get stronger than Renji?”
“If you train enough, baka. “
“If you'd get over your stubborness and just materialize, you'd make things much easier, you know.”
“I know. But you don't deserve to see me just yet.”
“Stupid zanpakuto.”
“Stupid Shinigami brat.”
Rikichi sheathed his zanpakuto and sighed. That was most of the problem. He and his zanpkauto, Kyuusaisha, were always bickering. It was bickering of the friendly sort, but it did nothing to improve the situation regarding Rikichi's complete lack of improvement in Zanjutsu. Ah well, he'd deal with it later.
It was dark by the time Rikichi reached home. Instead of fixing himself something to eat, and maybe relaxing a little, Rikichi just tore off his robes and collapsed on his bed. He was in a dreamless sleep before his head even hit the pillow.
Author's note : Sorry about the little mishap earlier (I posted the draft version by accident. These two are the completed chapters.)
Thanks so much to my reviewers, and my beta reader :D
