When Opportunity Knocks
She feels really stupid when she finally notices. How she could have missed it in the first place she doesn’t know. The signs are painfully obvious.
It’s in the way he tracks the man’s movements even though they aren’t sparring. The way his mouth tightens at the mention of Yoruichi and the smile in his eyes as he frowns at yet another stupid joke. And most telling of all is the way he no longer protests when Urahara gets a little too friendly, even seeming to welcome it.
What really drives it home for her is the day she finds them kissing in the back room of the shop. Arms wrapped around each other, holding on tight. It looks like something out of the movies; the passion, the need, the love.
It saddens her to think that if she had been just a bit braver and told Ichigo how she felt maybe then he’d be looking at her like that instead of Urahara. Maybe then she’d be able to do more than watch the love of her life slip further away with each moment spent in that man’s arms.
