A Mother For Yachiru
I have decided that since my muses for my other Bleach stories have taken a major vacation, I would try writing another story.
Disclaimer: I don't own Bleach.
Summary: The wars are over and Orihime has tried to go back to living normal. However, just as her life was getting somewhat situated, a new situation comes up in the Society that only she can help with. Follow her journey as she makes her choice and how will her friends react? Can she make the sacrifices that will help the situation or will she loose it all.
Chapter 1
Orihime stood outside on her balcony, staring at the sky. It had been months since she was saved from Aizen and his goons, and her life was somewhat getting back to normal.
She continued to go to school, thankful that someone had the insight to actually use a mind control device on everyone. They thought that she had went on a vacation to visit a sick family member, when in truth she was a prisoner.
The young girl then went back inside and drew her legs up to where her head could rest on her knees. Really, she hadn't been too much help in the wars.
The first time Ichigo went into the society, she succeeded in getting captured by the Eleventh Division. True they let her go but the fact remained. The second mess up was that she went willingly to Aizen, then when she was rescued, she was banned from the society for an undisclosed amount of time. All the news came either from Rukia or from Kisuke Urahara.
She sighed and stood up, only to turn as there was a knock on the door.
"Who would be here, this time of night?", she spoke out loud and looked out the peep hole. She gasped and quickly opened the door, bowing for the Captain Commander.
"Hello, Orihime. Please, allow us to come inside, there is much to discuss."
***********************************************************************************
Orihime stepped to the side, admitting not only the First Division Captain but the Tenth Division Captain Toushirou Hitsuguya and his vice captain Rangiku Matsumoto. Rangiku shut the door and the three took a seat on the floor, followed by Orihime.
Yamamoto took a breath and then sighed. "Orihime, we need your help."
"My help? I can't fight in wars, I can't even fight in battles."
Rangiku smiled softly. "It's not that type of battle, Orihime. I am sure you still remember Eleventh Division Captain, Kenpachi Zaraki, correct?"
Orihime nodded. "Yes. He took care of me when I was lost."
She smirked. "Yeah. This has to do with him."
Orihime's eyes went wide. "Oh no. He's not hurt is he?"
Toushirou finally spoke. "Not physically, but mentally, he isn't well."
"Not well?"
Yamamoto nodded. "When you all left this last time, the society set up our version of Social Services. Upon reviewing Captain Zaraki's case with his vice captain, Yachiru, they removed her from his care. Said something about a young girl being subject to the killing he does, and his actions, make him an unfit father. They placed rules for him to get her back and let's just say that not only Zaraki is hurting but so is little Yachiru. He has to have a female present when they have visits and he hasn't been able to see her in a week. His third and fifth seats came to me with concerns for him. He doesn't eat, he doesn't sleep."
"So, you want me to come back into the society so he can see her?"
Toushirou shook his head. "It isn't just that. There is one rule that Kenpachi is scared of, one rule that he thinks he won't be able to fill. That's what has him so stressed out. He can fill the other requests, just not this one."
"And that is?", Orihime blurted out.
Yamamoto cleared his throat. "Kenpachi Zaraki must have a wife before Yachiru will be returned to his custody."
Orihime just stared. After a few seconds, she met Yamamoto's eyes. "A...wife?"
Toushirou nodded. "A wife. It's understanding that while we know that Yachiru is perfectly able to care for herself, they want a mother to raise her and keep her away from all the fighting."
The young girl swallowed and closed her eyes. "You want me to marry him?"
Rangiku grabbed her hand. "Not right now. We just need you to supervise the visitations. That would clear us up to figure out if we could actually find him a wife in the society."
Orihime stood and looked out her balcony door. "So I would be the last resort? I thought I was banned from the society. Or is it because you know he won't hurt me?"
Yamamoto stood and placed his hand, gently on her shoulder. "We know he won't hurt you. If that wasn't so, he would have harmed you when he had you before. Please do this as a favor for me, allow an old man to make up for his mistakes. I was wrong to pass judgement before knowing the whole story. I see now, you went to try to protect your friends and the society."
Orihime thought for a few more minutes. "If a wife isn't found, what will happen?"
Rangiku stood and sighed. "They will move her to another part of the society or even order it for her to be placed in the real world until she grows to be eighteen here. They are determined to keep her away from Zaraki, that is why they made the rule about the wife. In their minds, no woman in her right mind would marry him."
The young girl took and breath and turned with a smile. "Well, we can't allow that to happen, can we? School is out for the summer so no one will expect me to be gone. It's normal for me to just vanish. Let's go. If I can't marry him, at least I can allow those two to see each other. No child should be kept from their parents."
***********************************************************************************
As soon as they returned to the society, Rangiku led her into the Eleventh Division. Ikkaku ran up with a smile.
"Orihime. It's good to see you again."
"Hello, Ikkaku. Where is he?"
"In Yachiru's room."
Rangiku smiled. "I leave you in good hands. If you need me, send Ikkaku to the barracks. Remember Orihime, he isn't the same as before."
"Thank you and I will."
Rangiku sighed as she walked off. "Please let this work."
***************************************************************
Kenpachi felt someone enter the room, but kept his eyes lowered on the bed. "Go away. I don't wanna be bothered."
He felt someone kneel next to him and gently touch his shoulder. "You need to bathe, eat and sleep. You can't go see Yachiru in that shape. Now, off you go and we will go visit her tomorrow."
"Ori..hime?"
She nodded with a smile. "Yes, now go. We will talk more in the morning."
Kenpachi quickly left the room, while ordering his dinner. After eating, he took a quick bath, washing the grime from his massive frame, he then went to bed and was asleep before his head hit the pillow.
************************************************************************************
The next morning, Kenpachi opened his eyes and stretched. Looking over on the table, he scratched his head at seeing his uniform as well as a clean captain's jacket, laying there for him. After dressing, he turned and walked out, ready to face the day. He smiled as he walked down the hall, he was getting to see his little girl, that made getting out of bed, easier.
Orihime turned with a smile as he walked out the door. Kenpachi looked her up and down at seeing the shinigami uniform she was wearing. "Tryin' to fit in?", he questioned with a smirk.
She laughed. "Sort of. Now, I have set up our appointment. Remember Captain Zaraki, this is going to be hard on Yachiru, perhaps harder than it will be on you. You will answer her questions, the best you can. Try not to let her cry too much, the workers will look down on that. We have a little while before we can go, do you have questions for me?"
He shook his head. "Not right now. I just wanna see her is all."
Orihime nodded. "Well then, let's go."
************************************************************************************
When the two of them arrived, Orihime knew there was going to be trouble. The first worker that came up to greet them, did so without a smile.
"Your not allowed to be here, Captain Zaraki."
Orihime's hand on his arm, stopped him from replying.
"We have been cleared through the Captain Commander. Captain Zaraki is allowed to visit, as long as there is a female present for the visitation. If you wish, you can send someone to check but we are both cleared."
Another female walked up and shook their hands. "That will be all, Amy. I'll take it from here."
************************************************************************************
As Amy left, the woman smiled. "I am Serra, Yachiru's case worker. You must be Captain Zaraki and Orihime, if I am correct?"
Orihime nodded and bowed. "Can we see her?"
Serra nodded. "Yes but Captain Zaraki, be warned that she is a little sad and not the same Yachiru, you knew. Please be prepared for anything. I already know she will cry and I have set up a private room for your visit. Follow me please."
The three walked down the hall and Serra pushed open a door. "Yachiru. You have visitors."
"I don't want no visitors. Tell them to go away."
Kenpachi chuckled and spoke up. "Alright then Brat, I guess I can just go back to the office."
"KEN-CHAN!", Yachiru screamed and ran across the room, jumping into his arms. "I missed you so much."
"Yeah, me too, Brat."
Serra smiled at Orihime and slid the door back shut, leaving the three alone.
***********************************************************************************
Orihime sat down on the couch and watched as Kenpachi held Yachiru close, his nose buried in her hair. He sat down in a chair and allowed the small girl to grip him tight, not letting go. He felt her tears and pulled her away.
"What's these, Brat?"
"I missed you so much. I want to leave here. When can I go home?"
Kenpachi sighed. "I gotta lotta shit to do, Yachiru, before they will allow you back home. Gotta get a wife, ya know. A mother for your ass. Then I can't allow you to be around any fighting. They say it's bad for a young girl your age. You can still be vice captain and all but.."
"It's not fair. I wanna go home with you now. Your a good father, you never let me get hurt. You adopted me and raised me and.."
Orihime walked over and touched her shoulder. "Yachiru-chan. Everyone is just trying to look out for you. No one wanted this to happen. I am sure that Captain Zaraki is trying extra hard to find a good mother for you. I know you want to cry now and you want to leave but don't you want to stay for good with him? If he takes you today, he could get arrested and put in jail. You don't want that to happen, do you?"
Yachiru shook her head and continued to look at Orihime. "No, I wanna stay with Ken-chan for good. He's my Father, ya know."
Orihime nodded. "I know but he wants a wife that will accept you and not treat you like anything other than you are. Do you know what that is?"
Yachiru shook her head. "No."
Orihime smiled. "Your strong, dependant and can take care of yourself. Most females would be put off by those facts. They want a little girl to spoil. Your not that way. It shouldn't be long now. I am sure Captain Zaraki has many women lined up to marry him. It isn't every day you get a strong husband and an equally as strong daughter. Just be patient."
The door slid open and Serra looked in. "I'm sorry but..."
Kenpachi stood up and sat Yachiru on her feet. "Now, you listen to these ladies and do what they say. I'll be back in a few days to visit. I can't leave the division work undone. Now, no more crying, alright?"
Yachiru nodded and bit her lip. "I...promise..", she whispered.
Kenpachi kneeled down and hugged her to his chest. "That's my girl. Be strong for me. I don't think I can be strong enough for the both of us."
Yachiru nodded. "I love you, Daddy.", she whispered.
Kenpachi suddenly stiffened and stood up. "Yeah. Give Orihime a hug, she is the reason I am allowed to visit."
Yachiru hugged Orihime tight. "Take care of my Daddy, please. I ain't there to do it right now."
The older woman nodded. "I will. Remember, you'll be home soon. Draw your daddy lots of pictures."
***********************************************************************************
Kenpachi walked with Orihime out the door, his shoulders sagging as soon as he heard Yachiru start crying again. Orihime glanced over to see tears in his one visible eye.
"Can ya find ya way back to the division alone?"
"I'm sure I can. What should I tell Ikkaku?"
"Tell him that he is in charge and I needed some time alone. He will know where to find me if he needs me. I'll be back sometime before morning."
" Be careful.", she whispered as he flash stepped off. Orihime then sighed and turned walking back towards the Eleventh Division.
************************************************************************************
Once she got there, she delivered the message and then went into her room, shutting the door. It was then that she cried, not only for Yachiru but also for Kenpachi. They were both hurting and it was plain to see that they depended on each other. She laid down on her bed and faced the wall, closing her eyes and letting her own tears wet the pillow under her head.
