Calming

A/N: written in response to a meme challenge. This is the only femslash story of this nature I've ever been able to complete. As such, it's a first and may not be the best. BUt I feel bad for fem-slashers of the bleach universe as they're less lucky in an abundance of fic! Constructive crit welcome, flames will be used to roast marshmellows.

All she could hear through the darkness was screams. She could feel the whoosh of air and the heat of a fire swirling around them all. But no flames glowed. No other bodies stood in this void. Then suddenly the deafening clash of steal filled her awareness as two bodies collided in battle inches from her face. Slowly, more figures appeared.

The faces of those dear to her popped up before her. The younger shinigami officers fought with white shadowed enemies. Their uniforms were torn to shreds. The stench of blood and the residue of crackling kido burned her nostrils. A high-pitched screech filled her ears. With a great weight on her feet she spun around to see her sister dashing forth towards her motionless captain. The shadow glowed with energy before releasing a yellow blast directly into Kiyone’s heart.

Isane’s eyes bulged. Her throat tingled on the verge of sound, but no scream could escape. She tried to lift her burdened legs, run to her. Maybe it wasn’t too late maybe she could heal her. If not, why was she a lieutenant in the first place? What good was it if she couldn’t even stand to protect her own blood?

But for as fast as she managed to move, the shadow and her sister kept retreating further and further away. Swear pour down the purple-haired women’s forehead as she struggled against an invisible weight. The shadows were coming closer. The screams were being choked out, and the pile of corpses grew.

“AHHHHHHHHHH!” Isane shot up from her bed, heaving air in and out of her lungs. Her hair lay matted against her forehead. Her pulse rushed through her body as the rush of adrenaline slowly trickled down leaving her body shaking.

She thought she was used to nightmares. They happened nearly every night. But most of them weren’t of this sort. Most of them were bizarre and involving the strangest of things in odd ways. But this, this was the product of the constant siege the soul society seemed to be under these days. Isane wrapped her blanket close around her body, quivering.

She bit her lip and closed her eyes. This was horrible. She was a grown woman, a second seat of a wonderful division, shaking like a child. It was just a dream; she should get a hold of herself. But she couldn’t. The image of her sister was too much. She opened an eye to look at the door, but promptly closed it once more. She couldn’t wander. She had to stay here and face this. But the last thing she wanted was to be alone.

A whimper escaped her throat.

“Isane?” A pleasant voice called out. The lieutenant turned towards the sound of her door began slid open.

“Taicho!” She gasped, looking towards her feet utterly embarrassed.

She couldn’t look up at the woman she so admired. Isane was ashamed of her weakness. It was unbecoming, and only bothersome. Now she must have wakened up her dear captain who deserved rest just as much as her.

“Oh dear.” A soothing voice trickled into her ears as she felt a gentle hand clasp her own. “You’re trembling.”

Isane’s grip on the blanket with her free hand tightened. She was such a disgrace. But the images! Unohana’s other hand pressed against her back, keeping her upright. The pressure filled with an energy meant to calm her still tingled. The sensation was enough to remind her of the blasts that absorbed everyone in her dreams. Isane gasped in a terrified sob and lunged herself at her captain, clinging onto her.

“Stop! Please! Please don’t!” Her shoulders shook with the tears that fell from her eyes, moistening her captain’s haori. “Please…” She begged.

“Shhhhh. It’s alright, Isane.” Gentle arms wrapped around her, one finding its way to her hair where it pet her scalp soothingly.

“T-Tai-cho…” Isane whispered, nuzzling into the other woman’s shoulder. “I’m sorry…” She blubbered.

Unohana lifted the younger woman away from her neck. Cupping her face in her hands, she wiped tears away from her brown eyes. Isane looked up into the warm face that smiled down at her. A slight blush began to rise on her cheeks. Her captain was always so gentle with her.

“Do not worry, Isane. It’s alright.” Unohana continued to hold the head that was now nuzzling her hand while another swept down under the younger woman’s arm to draw her close. “But you need to relax, dear.”

“Isane…” the captain whispered, drawing the girl’s attention. “Do you trust me?”

The lieutenant nodded obediently. She would put her life into her captain’s hands without any question. It was still to her surprise when Unohana drew her up into her lap then. Tilting her head the captain lowered her head to capture Isane’s lips between her own. The lieutenant gasped, unsure of this. She had never thought of her captain being inclined to such things with anyone let alone herself. But the kiss was soft and inviting. Isane was too mentally drained to protest, preferring to fall into the gentle arms that sought to draw her in.

Cautiously, Isane raised her hands to rest on her captain’s arms. The older woman must have misinterpreted because she immediately withdrew. Isane flushed deeper, not quite able to meet her captain’s gaze.

“I’m sorry, Isane. Was that unpleasant?” Her captain inquired.

“No!” Isane’s gaze snapped upward boldly. The smile that tugged at Unohana’s mouth made her look away again. “I-I mean.. It was…”

“It was?”

“…Taicho?” Insane gulped slowly. The kind chuckle that reached her ears made her smile a bit. Her captain would never belittle her. She knew the sound was an endearing one.

The captain didn’t ask for her lieutenant to elaborate. Instead she wrapped her up in her arms and searched once more for her mouth. This time, Isane was not taken aback and cautiously responded, parting her lower lip slightly to allow her captain access. Warm hands slipped beneath the shoulders of her sleeping robe and massaged the muscles there causing the girl to sigh contently. Here in Unohana’s embrace was far more comforting then artificial calm.

Those same hands pushed gently to remove the fabric from the girl’s shoulders until she was exposed from hip up. The light chill of the night caused Isane to shiver. The attentive captain rubbed the girl’s arms in swipes to warm them. Breaking their kiss for air she quietly lowered her mouth to trail kisses along Isane’s neck. The lieutenant bared her neck for her, one hand clasping around her captain’s shoulder the other using to brace herself. Slowly, Unohana guided the other girl so that she was lying down.

Isane lay in the dim room, looking up at her captain, her head slightly dazed. When she was asked if she wanted this to cease, she could only lazily shake her head no. This encompassing warmth was too comfortable to shed. A slight gasp passed by her lips when her captain nodded, slipping her hand around the exposed waist. The captain captured Isane once more as she leaned down to use her free hand to fondle the closest breast. In fluid motions she moved her lips from Isane’s lips to the nipple she had squeezed to a hardened nub.

The hand placed so close to Isane’s abdomen wandered across her stomach in little circles before creeping beneath the cloth that covered her lower half yet. Unohana did not untie the sash, but found the part in the fabric to sneak. With firm hands she massaged the inner thigh closer to her. Isane gasped, her head swimming. The adrenaline that had been feeding her fear now burned again but for an entirely different reason. Yes, she ached, but of weariness. Reaching out Unohana to bring her attention back to her.

“Taicho…I...No one’s ever, uh…” embarrassment filled her voice.

“Then I’ll be exceedingly careful.” Isane couldn’t remember those kind eyes ever having the glint they did in them. “I promise you, Isane. This will calm you.”

With that Unohana discarded her haori, balled it, and placed it behind her fukutaicho so that she was partially leaned up. Hovering above her lieutenant she sought another searing kiss to distract the girl as her fingers danced over the triangle of slightly darker hair that lay between Isane’s legs. The younger woman shuddered, opening herself up to her captain as fingers explored the moist labyrinth of folds.

Hot breath past across the neglected nipple before moister encased it. Fingers slipped carefully into Isane’s core. The lieutenant shuddered as heat continued to trickle through her as two cautious fingers plunged in and out of her. Her heart raced at the sensation of breath spreading across her body. Her captain crooked her fingers so that she was able to stimulate her clit without ceasing her ministrations or the slow motions of her other hand on Isane’s hip, keeping the squirming girl somewhat in place. She felt soft kissing being planted on her taught stomach, causing her to lift her lower half up to the sweet lips. The motion drew her captain’s digits deeper within her.

“Taicho…” She gasped, wanting some more, needing it, but unable to understand quite what. All she could process was this build up was raging through her with every kiss, every breath.

Unohana didn’t make a sound. Instead she retreated completely for a moment at the protest of the purple haired girl. When she returned, though, she whispered soft apologies to Isane before a much thicker object then her fingers entered the vice captain. Isane winced slightly, looking to her captain with confusion. Unohana muttered inaudible sounds in her ear, placing kisses on her collarbone before she began moving the object. Slowly the discomfort gave way to a flood of pleasure, crashing through her body before ebbing momentarily. The residue from each blow accumulated, storing, until her breath could only come sharp intakes and her vision swam.

Her captain leaned over the squirming body so that her voice could reach her. Isane’s mind couldn’t form words into coherent sentences. But, it did understand one thing. Carefully timed motions and quick thinking on part of her captain made the young lieu tent gasp loudly as the build up within her burst, violently flooding over her senses for long moments. As the storm slowly died, Isane drifted back down to earth.

Dizzily Isane realized she was nestled into her captain’s arms. She felt soothing hands pushing her hair away from her forehead and a blanket being brought over her body. Calming sounds went through her ears. She whispered her captain’s name, drawing a fond sound form her leader’s throat.

“Sleep, now, Isane. I’ll stay to keep the monsters away.” Isane heard Unohana shift so that she was sharing her pillow. The lieutenant smiled, snuggling into the warm arms wrapped around her. Closing her heavy eyelids she found herself looking forward to slumber for once. Her captain had never lied to her. She was at peace now. Isane would trust her to chase away the demons of her dreams.

Her last conscious thought was to thank her captain, in a way she would most certainly remember.
