The Troubles of Freedom

“Boooooooooored” droned Grimmjow to the captain who, for the time being, was his only company. “Do you Shinigami really just sit around and do paperwork all day?” He asked clearly convinced of the fact.

“You could always just go back to your cell Arrancar…” replied the young captain, eye twitching angrily already.

The first full day of Grimmjows freedom had began less then an hour ago and Toshiro was already contemplating whether or not to choke him to death. Rangiku had conveniently been gone since the evening before and had yet to return.

“Oh keep your pants on Kid, I’ll just go back to my room.” He said clearly annoyed that his apparent freedom had him watching someone sign papers. “Tell Matsumoto to bring drinks whenever she comes back!” he shouted as he rounded the corner at the end of the hall and out onto the balcony of the Division headquarters.

Toshiro only sighed in thankfulness that he finally had some piece and quiet, the Arrancar was almost worse then his lieutenant when it came to work.

Outside Grimmjow had already tucked his hands into his pockets and began exploring his new prison cell. He of course had no intention of just hanging out in a bedroom all day; he could have just stayed in his cell if he enjoyed that. Of course the only things he found at the headquarters were judging eyes and pissed off members of the division who were less then happy that he was now part of their little home.

A specifically annoying little gnat had taken to stalking him most of his time since he arrived, connived that he would be causing trouble in no time. He was less then stealthy, but it seemed he thought he was blending in quite well. The Espada had been stalked plenty for his liking in his time in Hueco Mundo and seeing as he was alone for a change decided to see if the bastard had any balls.

“Oi!” he shouted suddenly stopping in a somewhat secluded area of the headquarters, “I thought Shinigami were supposed to be all honor and sunshine! Quit hiding and stand like a man!”

There was a long enough pause for Grimmjow to believe that maybe he wouldn’t be showing himself, but when he had almost continued on his way the man stepped from his nook. He was tall, taller then Grimmjow but lanky and as far as he was concerned…needed to eat a bit more. He had shoulder length hair, pulled back in a short tail. He wore the normal shinigami attire, only having a green bauble about his neck, and a additional green sash tied loosely about his waist.

“Perceptive for a savage.” He spoke politely, even smiled at him like they were old acquaintances.

“You don’t have any idea Shinigami.” He replied, that old grin creeping between his lips.

“Of which?” the Shinigami calmly replied, that strange smile still on his face, “Your perceptiveness or savagery?”

“Quit your bullshit…” growled the Espada. “Put up or piss off.”

The Shinigami sighed and shook his head, “Now now, that’s hardly becoming of a third seat…starting random fights with guests.”

Grimmjows eye twitched in annoyance and deciding that he had had enough lunged suddenly, arm raised powerfully in preparation to strike the bastard in his stupid little mouth.

“Bastard!” he cried ferociously.

Of course he never quite made it to the man, in a flash a weight came upon him from behind crashing into his back and pinning him to the ground roughly. Surprised he crashed into the ground, a small cloud of dust puffing up from him.

“Hiya Ren!” exclaimed Matsumoto from her position atop Grimmjow, she waved happily. “I see you were welcoming our new addition, how nice of you!”

“Of course.” He replied smiling, his hand falling away from his Zanpukto. “He just seemed lost is all; I thought I’d point him in the right direction.”

“I’ll fucking ki…” Started Grimmjow before his head was quickly pushed into the ground and his words muffled.

Matsumo laughed and spoke over the muffled cursed of the Arrancar, “How nice of you, I’ll just have to tell the Captain how nice you were.” She smiled warmly and shooed the man on his way, “I’ll take the poor guy off your hands, have a nice day!” She called over her shoulder as she suddenly stood and dragged the Espada still cursing around the corner and out of sight.

“You too Lieutenant.” Responded the Shinigami before heading back the way he had come, no evidence of frustration apparent on his face.

When Grimmjow finally stopped struggling in her embrace she sighed and rested her chin upon his shoulder. They sat in another of the headquarters small gardens, Matsumoto sitting behind the man, arms draped around his waist, still smiling lightly.

“Leave you alone for a few minutes and you go getting into trouble, Huh?” she asked lightly.

“That asshole started it…you should have let me go at him.” Growled the still flustered Grimmjow, “His smile pissed me off anyway, reminds me of people I don’t care for.”

Matsumoto giggled, “You know with that collar on he could have killed you before it adjusted and gave you any strength…”

“Fuck off, he never would have hit me anyway.” He replied coldly.

“You should be more careful Grimmy…Not everyone hates you ya know?”

Grimmjow forgot about the bastard Shinigami for the moment and turned his head to the girl who coyly turned her gaze away at his movement, “You care about me?”

“Maybe…So quit being so dumb okay.” She said quietly still avoiding his gaze.

Grimmjow paused, seemingly touched, “That’s…strange…” he started somberly, “I didn’t think you were such a sissy.” He said matter of factly.

Matsumoto had him thrown forward and was angrily pulling his arm behind his back, twisting as she did so before he could even start laughing, “SISSY HUH!” she roared at the man as she pulled.

Grimmjow laughed hysterically beneath her, occasionally yelping when she pulled but always falling back into laughter. This went on for some time, usually slowing down only for Grimmjow to call her a frilly girl or sissy again. Eventually it did slow and finally stop, resulting in the woman lovingly straddling the man, a small smile between her lips as she looked down at him. She did most of the talking, as Grimmjow had never been much for the cute stuff…though the look on his face showed he enjoyed hearing it. They shared light kisses, only for the briefest moments growing passionate before parting. The two enjoyed the afternoon in this way, occasionally changing dominant positions and eventually ending up side by side, The Shinigami resting her head on the Arrancars arm, both of them happily watching the world go by.

Some distance away the man that had so nearly succeeded in purging the filth that was the Arrancar from his home sat among a small group of five. Each one a Shinigami, though each bearing a mark of a different division. They drank and spoke in hushed tones among themselves, never more then a low whisper.

“Next time he’s alone I’ll just take em down…” started the largest of the six, he who bore the mark of the eleventh division.

“You are a fool, we must be honorable if we are to succeed.” Spoke another in reply, this man bearing the sixth division insignia.

“That would not be sufficient…” replied a woman who sat properly, calmly sipping at a cup of tea, “Captain Kurotsuchi is far to interested in the beast, he would discover it was you and you would be executed.” She wore the symbol of the twelfth division.

“He would never find anything if I did it instead.” Spoke the third of six, “In fact he would never even hear me coming.” She grinned confidently, she represented the second division.

“Sadly…” Began the leader of the group of Shinigami, “I don’t think any one here can sneak up on him, He sensed me and none of you can do that…” it was Ren that spoke, the man who had attempted to take Grimmjows life that very day. “No, we will need to be a bit more creative to keep our hands clean.” He smiled that warm liars smile, “You all just go on as normal, if your assistance is needed I will call for it.”

And so the pieces were revealed, now one could only wait, for the first move to be cast.

VioletEyes – Sorry again for the long pause my schedule is not so much a fan of my writing, if you are still reading I thank you and I hope you enjoy the things I am adding (Hoping I don’t screw up the flow or characterization too bad after all this time) and if not thanks for all the support!

Megan – I’m glad you enjoyed it so far! I like how you look at things, I actually sorta consider Grimmjow to be Ichigo’s mirror. They are both very similar, but where Ichigo was brought up in relative piece (ignoring all his school fighting :P) Grimmjow was born into a constant endless struggle to live, and his persona reflects that.

General – Not going to give much away, but Rangiku is here to stay, but by no means does that mean Rukia is gone…in fact she has a huge part to play, and despite earlier comments is still someone Grimmjow holds close to his heart. As always, Thanks for reading!
