From Stranger to Wife

I no own, you no sue.

This is my answer to my own Marriage Law Challenge that I placed up. I hope it will receive good reviews and if not, oh well.

Chapter 1

The jijokucho's had been delivered, informing all male captains and vice captains of the mandatory meeting that was currently taking effect. The battle with Souske Aizen was over and had taken out a good bit of forces from the society in the short time the war waged.

Central Forty Six had met and debated for months over a new law to be placed into effect to help the society repopulate the shinigami with fresh blood with more so to replace those that they had lost in the war. A law like this had never been voted on and after the months came to an end, the decision was hands down voted in favor. Now it was up to the Captain Commander of the Gotei Thirteen to read the law and put it into action.

Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryusai stood looking over the fourteen males sitting in front of him and sighed. He tapped his hand on the desk, calling order to the meeting.

"I wish for each of you to remain silent until I am finished reading this for the meeting. It is a law that was passed by Central Forty Six in the early hours and I am required to put it into effect. It is by the order of Central Forty Six that a new law will be effective immediately. All unwed captain's and vice captains of the Gotei Thirteen will be wed. This law is to insure that the society is repopulated with new blood. The law is outlined below.

First, the males are free to choose their wives.

Second, the female must come from the real world and not be a spirit. No Shinigami or spirits living in our world will be eligible for wedding. The female may come from any location in the real world.

Third, It will be up to the male to inform the intended of the circumstances, not only surrounding this law but his job in the Gotei Thirteen.

Fourth, The female must come to the Soul Society of their own free will. If the female refuses, a memory replacement will be put into effect.

Fifth, A child is expected to come from the union within a year and a half. It will be up to the female and male of if or not to have more children.

Six, A wedding will take place either in the real world or the Soul Society. The choice is the husband and wife.

Seven, The husband will be faithful to his wife and vice versa. At the first sign of infidelity, the accused will be arrested and a full evaluation done. If the accused is found guilty, they will be put to death.

Eight, The husband will be required to protect the female from those who will wish to harm her.

This is the ruling of the Central Forty Six. Once this law is read, the eligible males have six months to complete the wedding or else he will be stripped of his title and exiled from the Gotei Squads."

The room was silent as the Captain Commander finished reading the law. There wasn't a single one who was not in shock at the news they received. As he looked around the room, he noticed that the Sixth Division Captain's eyes had widened but quickly returned to normal. No one else moved a muscle and he sat down, waiting on the questions.

Finally, The Twelfth Division Captain, Mayuri Kurotsuchi cleared his throat.

"Yes?"

"Why where we not made aware of the possible passing of this law?"

The Eleventh Division Captain, Kenpachi Zaraki answered for the Captain Commander. "Because, they figured that if we caught wind of this, we would run out and wed a shinigami or spirit wife. That would pretty much screw up this law. What fucked up name did they give this shit anyway's?"

Shigekuni chuckled. "The Marriage Law."

"That's a stupid name but it fits." The vice captain of Squad Two snorted. "Half of us don't even know females in the real world or have even been there."

All of the eyes turned to Byakuya Kuchiki, Renji Abarai, Toushirou Hitsuguya, Izuru Kira and Shuhei Hisagi.

Byakuya waved his arm. "It makes no difference. We have to abide by this law. If Aizen wasn't destroyed already, I would say that he had a hand in something like this but the law is law and we must obey." He looked back to the captain commander. "Are we going to be given leave to do this? Surely they can't expect us all to go at once."

Shigekuni nodded. "I have already been thinking of a plan. I will place the numbers from the divisions that this law will apply into a box and draw out a number every two weeks. Hopefully that will be long enough to possibly find a suitable wife."

Byakuya nodded. "Then let's get on with this."

Within minutes a box was brought out and the numbers placed inside. Shigekuni stuck his hand in and grabbed a number, pulling it out and opening it. "The first division will be Division Six."

Renji groaned. "Why am I not surprised?"

Shigekuni stood up. "This meeting is now adjourned. I would advise those who are not in the Sixth Division to think about where you want to look. The quicker we get this done, the quicker that we can get back to normal. Thank you all for coming at such a quick notice. Captain Kuchiki, Vice Captain Abarai, I look forwards to meeting your future wives."

An hour later, Byakuya and Renji were in the Sixth Division office, speaking about what was going on. Byakuya turned his gaze to his friend and vice captain with a smile. "Do you have any idea where you are going to look?"

Renji nodded. "Actually yeah. I am going to look in the America's. It would be somewhere different. They did say from anywhere in the real world. How are we going to do this, Captain?"

Byakuya leaned back in his chair. "I will allow you leave first. We will split it into a week for each of us. This way the squad will not be left without a senior officer. I will handle the paperwork for the week and expect you to do the same for me. Remember, Renji. You only have seven days including today."

Renji nodded and stood. "I guess I had better go then. I will see you in a week."

Byakuya sighed as Renji shut the door. "Good luck, Renji. I have a feeling, you will need it."

It didn't take Renji long to plan his trip and he was soon exiting out of the sekaimon. He shivered as he started walking, already having the location of the motel where he would be staying. He walked up to the door and knocked, not surprised when a mod soul in a gigai opened the door and allowed him entrance.

He familiarized himself with the outlay of the town, and where the hotel was located. He gave the orders to the gigai and stepped back out the door, starting to walk down the streets.

Renji had a simple plan to find his wife. Figure out what humans could see him walking around in his spirit form. From there he would approach them and figure out how to talk to them then.

After a few hours, he realized that perhaps this wasn't going to be as easy as he thought it would be. He came to a park and sat on a bench with Zambimaru laying beside him. He leaned his head back, allowing the materialization to come forth and sighed.

"Not as easy as you thought, huh?" the baboon sighed.

Renji shook his head. "It's like no one around here has the ability to see me. I really didn't want to use that damn gigai. I hate them."

"Baka. Of course it would be hard." the snake portion hissed. "You are just too freaking complicated."

"Oh shut up." Renji hissed without raising his head. "I don't need no shit from you. I already wasted too much time today."

He cracked open his eye when he noticed that Zambimaru had fallen silent. He followed the baboon's gaze to see a girl sitting on the other end of the bench and sucked in his breath, getting ready to stand a slip away.

The female had brown hair and was wearing glasses. She was dressed in a pair of jeans and a tee shirt. On her feet she wore white shoes that slid on and he smiled at seeing the pink heels on her socks. Suddenly the girl turned her head, her blue eyes locking on his own.

"You are not from around here are you?" she whispered.

"You can see me?" Renji asked with his eyes wide.

"Sure. I am just trying to figure out if I am imagining that huge baboon with a snake for a tail there or not. My therapist said that I hallucinate a lot."

Renji placed his hand on Zambimaru's head. "He's real. His name is Zambimaru."

"Zambimaru, huh? Weird. Is he your pet or something?"

"Or something." Renji chuckled.

She was silent for a few minutes. "Can I touch it?"

"EHH?" both portions of Zambimaru questioned. The snake glared at Renji. "Did that baka bitch just ask to touch us?"

"Bitch?" the girl hissed.

Renji rolled his eyes. "He's an ass hole. Well that potion is. It's up to him if he wants ya to touch him or not."

Zambimaru shrugged his shoulder and stepped over to her, lowering his head.

Renji then watched as the girl slowly laid her hand on his head and used her nails to scratch him gently. "He's soft."

Zambimaru snorted and vanished, causing her eyes to go wide and then shoot down towards the sword that stopped glowing red. "Did I upset him?"

Renji chuckled. "He doesn't like being called cute or soft. He's weird. I'm Renji by the way. Gotta name?"

The girl smiled. "Kaylynn. But everyone calls me Kay. So you want to explain to me what is going on?"

Renji shrugged. "Not out here but if you wanna come to my motel room, I'll tell ya there. I mean, you can trust me and all that shit. I won't hurt ya. I won't force you to come either."

Kaylynn stood. "I'm curious about what that was. I was on my way to eat so I can call from your room and order take out if your hungry."

Renji stood after her. "Sure. Come on and stick close."

******************************************************************************

Every so often, Renji would look over his shoulder to see if Kaylynn was following him. It didn't take them long to get back to his motel room and he motioned to the phone. "If it would make you more comfortable, I could use my gigai."

Kaylynn shook her head. "You don't have to. Could you just get rid of him for a while?"

Renji nodded and told the gigai to go swimming but to stay close to the room. Within an hour they were eating and Renji started explaining about the law and his life in the society.

Kay swallowed her food and frowned. "So basically, they are forcing you to get married and have kids or else you loose your ranking?"

Renji nodded as he laid down his chop sticks. "That's pretty much the jest of it. The law is screwing a big bunch of us, in a big way."

"So what if the female doesn't agree?"

Renji lifted the kikanshinki. "I just press this button and the memories are erased. The sucky thing is that whatever memory replaces the talk is completely random. When I push the button, there is a puff of smoke and the girl will be unconscious for a while."

Kaylynn stretched her arms over her head. "So who else have you picked?"

Renji looked down. "Your the only one who was able to see me."

The girl reach over the bed and lifted his chin. "You seem like a cool enough guy. My life is going no where fast so how about I agree to this law thing?"

Renji's eyes went wide. "Why? I mean besides your life stuff?"

Kaylynn laid down on the bed and closed her eyes. "Does it matter? You need a wife and I agree. We have six days to get to know each other and I can tie up loose ends in that time. Besides sooner or later I am gonna have to pay that snake back for calling me a bitch."

Renji chuckled. "Alright, you win. It won't be easy but we'll give it a shot. Let me go get my gigai and I'll take ya home."

Kaylynn shrugged. "Ain't really got a home." She then yawned. "Not much a home at all. I am the only one there."

Renji smiled at her. "Then take off ya glasses and sleep. I'll wake ya in the morning."
